Right, but he provides terrible analysis for why he thinks the SEC is overrated. He didn't point to underdevelopment, lack of talent, bad coaching, or anything else that actually makes sense, he was simply contrarian for the sake of stirring the pot and trying to get ratings. I'm sure he's a fine person, but his on air, smug persona is grating and his routine degradation of the SEC with no analysis and clear biases makes for bad television. He has shite on the SEC as much as he could for as long as he could and it was only last year that his nonsense was proven right, if you even want to say that.
Point being, he's a talking head "expert" put on air by ESPN to drive ratings by poking the SEC bear which is lazy as frick television. Anyone with half a brain knows what he's doing and why he's doing it, but so many people don't have that mental capacity, so SEC homers will call in and bitch and the rest of the nation will call in and herald Kanell as the next great analyst in football. And the ratings will rise.

I'm as big of an SEC homer as anyone, but I'll give him credit for being right all year last year about the SEC -- the West in particular -- being overrated. Outside of Arkansas and A&M, the West got pwned in bowl season last year, and Bama crapped the bed in the playoff to a team everyone thought shouldn't have been there in the first place.
Yeah, he's an FSU goober, but he called the SEC West correctly when everyone (myself included) was drooling all over the West for having 4 teams ranked in the top 6.

He's been calling it overrated for years, so I don't really give him credit for finally being right.
Russilo would continually challenge him to add substance to his belief but he couldn't because he was really only doing it to troll. So that's why he sucks.
Also you can't bash on the west as overrated but continue to prop up FSU, which was obvious to anyone that they were a very flawed team last year despite the record.

Even a broken watch is right twice a day. The guy is a clown, knows he's a clown, and sits there with a shite-eating grin on his face the entire time he bad mouths the SEC knowing that he has no real rationalization for it. Finally. Finally he was right and the SEC wasn't quite as good as it was touted to be, and, frankly, arguments can be made to say that that's actually not true, but he almost never pointed out flaws in particular teams' games except for the most surface, obvious issues, like LSU's lack of quarterback play or its youth. I mean, a fricking blind 10 year old can see that.
If he wanted to say: "Look, A&M has a terrible defense and poor to inconsistent quarterback play [and then break down plays showing that]." and "Alabama has trouble here [show it] and here [show it] and their quarterback is just good enough to not give up games, but he isn't going to really elevate the team when it comes time to the playoff." and "Auburn can't stop this [show it]." Then great. He's an analyst. Instead, the common refrain was: "Well, I just don't think X is that good. [Insert cursory analysis]." He is flat fricking terrible, his whole shtick designed to inflame and irritate to drive ratings. Like I said, he's an even worse Colin Cowherd.

I know how he got on Holtz every time ND lost, I thought that was great.
Anyways, whoever they put out there is bound to infuriate some portion of the college football fanbase.
