This is not going to be popular. But the reason Maravich wasn't better and would struggle today is that white guys are ostracized and it's harder for them to succeed in the NBA. The teams and culture are designed to alienate and hamper them.

When Maravich got to the Hawks, the rest of the team vilified him. They didn't want him there. He fought against it his whole career. Its part of why white player after white player fails in the league. Euros don't deal with it and it doesn't affect them. It takes a very rare guy to deal with all that (Hayward and Love for example). Maravich crumbled and would again..

I’m actually shocked at out bad of a take this is.

In my 10 years here, it’s top 3 in just fricking outright shitty takes.

he’s probably confusing handles for crossovers

They called carry and up and under in Pete’s day until the NBA figured out nobody paid to see the refs

Maravich was drafted to a 48-win Hawks team. Five of the Hawks top six leading scorers returned to the team along with the same coach in Maravich's rookie season and their win total dropped by 12 games. How do you explain that?

Pete was making more money than all of them, and was much resented.

For his era, Pete’s handle was absolutely incredible. But the training now is so much more knowledgeable and efficient.

The problem with these types of arguments is that people just assume the player from the past wouldn't be able to take advantage of the training/knowledge we have today

. The modern palming & carrying really became worse/ more blatant after Allen Iverson.

Yeah, that’s a very fair point. And the more I look up stuff on it, the worse I think my take may have actually been. Oh well.

for dribbling?

GTFO

It's a skill, athletes now a days are bigger, faster and stronger, but skills are roughly the same. I bet i can drop 1950's Ted Williams in the majors and he fricking rakes. Batting is a skill, drillbing is a skill, shooting is a skill.
