That's a load of bullshite. All you have to do is look at DAT NGUYEN'S stats from 1998 (WILL ILB in a 3-4) and your argument turns into complete shite.

If you have a dominant 3 man defensive line. Linebackers make all the tackles in a 3-4. Your Nose eats up at least a double team, if he doesn't he's not doing his job, same with the DTs/DEs whatever you wanna call them. However 3-4 ILBs have to be huge. Just look at all of Sabans past linebackers.

Good to know a player who played 15 years ago has a bearing on the Heisman race. fricking ranter

Did he play in a 2 gap or 1 gap? What does Te'o play in? What is Diaco's scheme like?

This should be good.

If Te'O had say over 20 tackles for loss, then we could take his Heisman candidacy seriously.

The fact that he has less tackles for loss in his entire career than about 10 linebackers have this season alone makes it even more of a joke.

Would you rather 7ints or 20 TFL?

20 TFL. That will make the other team MORE likely to turn the ball over on 2nd/3rd and long.

He will be an all american, win the heisman, and will possibly get a national championship ring. To go along with those six awards.

I wouldn't bother. Lost cause with no understanding of how stats are a product of scheme and what a player is asked to do within a scheme. I doubt he has ever paid attention to ND's technique on defense, particularly along the DL and at LB.

Why would the award go to a good LB over a QB who set records? That's my only question. In a year of average-ness, Manziel had the best year.

So you'd rather make a team more likely to turn the ball over(whatever that means) than taking the actual turnover.

Lol makes no sense, but ok guy.

A TFL could be a -1 yard loss. Or 2 or 3. Often times insignificant

A turnover literally charges the game.

A 1 gap is easier even though it's not a typical 3-4 but a one gap is easier to slant out of and take on double teams since the 3 d lineman are already lined up in a gap.

So now he's a "system linebacker"?

That's worse than a "system quarterback"

Nobody is saying he's a system linebacker, he's always played in a 3-4 but this year he's had the defensive line to take on blockers for him. Of those 3 lineman aren't blocked then they will make the play. That's what makes a good linebacker in a 3-4 honestly.

Has he won a National Championship?

Because he hasn't yet, and he never will. Hard to be one of the most decorated players in a team sport when you don't win the top award in the sport.

Never said he was a system player. Even so, that had never been a negative connotation to me. Especially in the college game, where players have been thriving in specialty systems for decades, and awarded for it.

It generally means he plays on a well coached team; putting your players in the best position to win. Every player is the product of some type of system.

He is not an average linebacker. He is very good. Overrated at this point yes. 7 picks is still good for an inside linebacker at any level.

For six. Most ever for a player in one season. (Charles Woodson had 5.)

Amazing how bad a year it is for dominate defensive players that this above average LB can become the most decorated college player of all time.
