Kevin Minter had better numbers in a better conference.

Ok.. His interceptions came mostly in games against Army and some other scrub.. I don't even remember those early teams they played.

This is a thread on Te'o, not Manziel

I love Minter, but this is just false. Both had 100 plus tackles. Minter had 1.5 more sacks. But Te'o forced 7 turnovers compared to only 1 for Minter. That is a significant difference considering the importance of turnovers.

Probably most decorated for defensive player.

Glen Dorsey had 4 awards and finished 9th in the 2007 Heisman Trophy. Probably best ever for a DE.

And is the MLB on a team that got the ball ran on them 23 consecutive times in a losing effort. They are linebackers, not quarterbacks. Individual stats aren't the end all.

Minter plays in an attacking 4-3 defense where there are 4 DL to occupy blockers and let the MLB roam the field and fire up the gaps on running plays.

Te'o plays ILB in a 3-4 where the ILB takes on blocks from Guards (unlike a 4-3 scheme). Te'o is not asked to run up the field on running plays. He's asked to control his gap and take on the block.

This is basic knowledge of schemes. You can't look at 2 defensive players and compare stats without understanding their scheme and what their role is.

add the fact that at least three of his picks came from deflections and you have an average joe LB.

Oh, yeah he definitely should have went with the girlfiend and grandma strategy.

ETA: before you all get your panties in a bunch, I'm just saying that these things should have NOTHING to do with winning on the field awards.
