As far as healthcare goes, why should schools have to bear that cost after playing days are over?

Maybe if they have some sort of injury while playing and again that is a big maybe.

Something that I always thought was kind of crappy was when a player committed to a school and suffered a career ending injury in High School they no longer had the scholarship offer. Maybe they should receive a scholarship that doesn't count towards the active roster but instead of playing they can serve as a trainer or in some other capacity in the Athlectic Department. It doesn't happen that often so it shouldn't be that big of a burden for the school.

The NCAA would also have oversight over NIL activities and the authority to investigate them.

So when the dust settles from realignment, the 24 team SEC will exit from the NCAA & do whatever they want!

The 24 team SEC will will be making the highest revenue of any institutions, if passed even more high-school players will flocking to the SEC because of the amount of revenue involved in paying their out of pocket expenses after graduation. The rich still get richer.

I believe changes are needed, but this sounds terrible. 3 years before you can transfer? No way this passes. Capping NIL deals seems unlawful to me.

If there was some way to cut out the school collectives and make the deals strictly between the businesses and the athletes, I'd be all for it. 2 years before a student athlete can transfer seems reasonable.

then they can join the new NCAAA(because some entity has to set the rules) and we start this all over again! brilliant!

like i said in the MSB version of this thread, states are literally passing laws prohibiting the NCAA from investigating schools in their state.

a set of national rules has to come from somewhere and the NCAA cant do it legally, so...

also where does it say they are capping NIL deals? admittedly only skimmed the article but didnt catch it anywhere.

3 years works, a commitment should mean something. Baseball makes you stay three years.

College student can transfer to another school without any repercussions, outside of maybe a few classes not carrying over, why does it have to be different just because a student wants to play sports?

Also, say a player commits to play a sport under a specific coach at a specific university, that coach leaves for a variety of reasons, why should the player be "stuck" at the school if the coach/school couldn't keep their commitment to player?

they have to sit out a year b4 being able to play. After 3 years and they decide to transfer, they are able to play immediately

Even if it passes, this bill has no chance of surviving legal challenges.

Pandora’s box has been opened and it will never be closed again.

I generally abhor fatalism, but sometimes it’s the truth.

This bill was not needed and shouldn’t even be touched by Congress.

this is such a stupid take

you havent even read the bill

but this has wide ranging effects on other things.

essentially the government in telling you, no matter the industry you work in, we can limit your income based on your name, image and likeness.

it is 100% non capitalistic, 100% an over reach and 100% will be over turned in the supreme court again!!!

Make it "if" you have an NIL deal you are required to stay 2 years at that school.

AND....close the portal as it is. You can transfer but sit out a year.

That stops this illegal tampering.

Wouldn’t that mean that NIL is an enticement to attend, which is currently illegal?

Do you really think the NCAA can prohibit NIL deals, that will be another lawsuit.
The only thing they may be able to rein in is the collectives.

That is exactly what they are trying to accomplish. Regulate greed, not stop it. The collective is now RECRUITING players to schools based on revenue. If schools get the hell sanctioned out of them for such greed it will be a deterrent.

I don't think they are trying to cap the amount of $$$ of NIL deals. More so make sure they are legit. A lot of these "NIL" deals are really just pay for play deals.

NIL should be for players who have actually played in some games IMO. They are giving more NIL deals to recruits then players. The recruits are nobodies and have no name image likeness dollars yet (unless big influencers on social media). NIL was meant for guys that had planned and were making their football teams more profitable by being good.
