It’s fun to watch him bc he seems so unathletic, yet he just dominates

He's very athletic. It's a matter of perspective, if you look at him through the conventional lens typically used to evaluate NBA athleticism, first step, jumping, speed and the like, he falls a little short. Look at the athleticism that he uses to get past people, create space and stuff, his athleticism is excellent. He plays a different sort of game than most NBAers.

He scored or assisted on 31 of 37 Mavs field goals last night and they only scored 4 pts in the 5 1/2 minutes he was out.

He is huge. When you see him on the court next to others guys you think are well built guys luke is wider and thicker than all of em.

I was listening to a podcast where they discussed advanced athletic evaluations where apparently Luka went to a place in L.A. and they analyzed his movements and told him he has average acceleration, jumping, first step, yadda yadda yadda traditional athleticism is decent but below average for NBA players, but that his ability to stop is the absolute fastest they had ever measured and that he needed to tailor his game around the deceleration.
The podcast said he did this when he was 16

That is actually what makes James the best.
Luka possesses an elite ability to go from 60 to 0, something you might use during a step-back or a crossover,” Eric Leidersdorf, Director of Biomechanics at P3 Applied Sports Science, explains in this video. “Luka possesses the ability to create a significant amount of force during the eccentric or deceleration phase of a counter-movement jump. This is a quality integral to change of direction performance.”
Doncic has been visiting P3, a high-tech training facility in Santa Barbara, California, at least once a year since he was 15 years old. P3 has amassed a huge amount of data on NBA players, as they’d evaluated 58% of the players who were on this season’s opening-night rosters. Last November, they shared this graphic highlighting how Doncic’s eccentric force output and eccentric rate of force development—two key metrics of deceleration—compared to James Harden, another player who baffles defenses with his ability to quickly slam on the brakes:
While Harden ranks in the 99th percentile of P3’s NBA database for both eccentric force output and eccentric rate of force development, Doncic isn’t far behind, ranking in the 92nd and 93rd percentiles, respectively.

Luka>>>>>>>>>>>Harden.

If harden is a 99, Luca is a 92. The percentiles from that article actually workout pretty good.
And I don’t think you can pick a worse time to say anyone is better harden. He is literally the best player on these playoffs, by a country mile. No one is ahead of him at any of the most recognized metrics.

You have sent out the bat signal for Boom now. Thread about to be derailed

Yah i get all that. Still think he looks unathletic until you immerse yourself in the nuance of his game

Well that didn’t take long. Pretty sure Boom has a rig set up for any mention of Harden to immediately alert his creepy arse.

Balance is the most underrated athletic attribute and the most important across pretty much all sports. It's a huge reason why Luka, Steph and Bird have been so great. Barkley had exceptional balance, which is why he tore up bigger guys in the post.

He’s the best player in the NBA today.

Does LUKA have a Durant or Kyrie on his team????? Screw your metrics.

That first quarter the way he was running in and out of the defensive pressures and switches to get open looks was like a bad 2k player who is just running back and forth to try to get open- except in real life it’s a good thing
