Sources: New Mexico coach Richard Pitino has had conversations with Louisville about its vacant coaching position. The son of the former Cardinals coach is in the mix.

I almost respect Louisville's position on just accepting the slime. They like to go black flag. Pitino, Petrino, Pitino 2.0. They don't care, just win baby.

I feel like there are maybe 6 or 7 people on the planet that they absolutely shouldn't hire and here they are looking at one of them.

The guy has had no success at Minnesota, other than the family name why would they go with him?

Their AD won't talk to Wade but they'll go back to the Pitino family.

Sound like a solid business move. You get the "name" with none of the actual ability. There are probably 30-40 other HC's Louisville could probably hire that would be better. So if you are going to hire the Pitino name just hire Rick

Just bring Rick back for one last ride. Some pearls will be clutched for a week and then everyone will move on.

Exactly.

What is the benefit of cowering to "bad press" from the ever virtue-signaling media? So some loser journalist chastises you for hiring a coach. You know who won't be upset? Your FANS...i.e. your customers. And do you know who will gladly hand over money to you if your program is winning? Those fans!

Do you know who won't fill your coffers with revenue? Some "morally superior" virtue signaler in LA, Boston, DC, etc with the ability to post to social media who is not a Louisville fan, has never been a Louisville fan, and WILL never be a Louisville fan, regardless of who coaches Louisville. So why are you letting people who aren't your customers and will never be your customers dictate how you run your business?

I'm sorry sir. You are wrong! Having the conditional support of some nerd who writes an article for a newspaper based 600 miles away is WAY more important to the athletic department's bottom line than 20K people buying expensive tickets to watch 18 games at your home arena.

You can only do so much with that revenue. But the wavering support of journalist is priceless!

The only reason he is being considered is to try and mend fences with Rick. Guy was bad at Minnesota and average at New Mexico. Our AD is giving every program an example of how not to do a coaching search

It really is a bad idea

He was a mediocre big ten coach before going to New Mexico

Why do they still care about that?

Also, why do people think this would get them bad press? The media has been sucking off Rick since he got to St John's. His kid getting hired to a place he used to work won't do anything but mean more Italian restaurant jokes. It would just be a shitty hire.

Richard Pitino

In 12 seasons as a head coach, he has had exactly 3 winning seasons in conference play and his best finish in conference was 4th.

His overall record in conference play is 88-135, a winning percentage of 39.5%
