SLU should open the season with a sweep. Our rotation is all whacky compared to what was projected, including one JUCO transfer getting the start this weekend.
Green will be taking the mound tonight, which he wasn’t factored into being a starter before the season. He’s considered one of the best pitching prospects in the SLC, so I am anxious to see how he does pitching extended innings (unless the plan is to throw out a lot of different guys this weekend).
On the other side, Notre Dame has handled the pussycats in football and basketball in 2018, time to complete the sweep!!!

I caught a game there back about 8 years ago when one of my student's (former teacher/baseball coach) was on a showcase route... not a bad place to go to school!

Wright State is unanimously picked to win the Horizon, the league Illinois-Chicago is from.
They've had a really good 3-4 year stretch dating back to when Lovelady was there (he's now at UCF and led their incredible turnaround a year ago).
Would not be surprised at all if the Wave lose 2/3 this weekend. In fact, I expect it.
Tulane's first four series are Wright State, Ole Miss, Cal St Fullerton, and Long Beach St.
Gonna be a rough start to the year

Wright State is coming to Lafayette next weekend

I didn't know they were doing a Louisiana swing to open their season. Would have been cool for LSU to get them on the schedule. Strong low-major program.

Kentucky will be giving a grand send off this season to everyone’s favorite field dimensions.
Goodbye to The Cliff. Think you’re going to miss some really good baseball under Coach Mingione in the coming years.

If we played them last year instead of St. Peters, we probably would've been in a regional

I mean, there are 297 other teams yall could have played that would have had a less bad impact on your RPI than the team that went 0-38.

I mean how do you not even accidentally win a game?

Yea, I’m with you, It seems almost like a matter of fact that the offense is going to be bad and I’m not sold on the pitching staff either with a weekend rotation featuring a grad transfer that wasn’t that good at Holy Cross and Keagan Gillies, who was not good at all in a much smaller role last year:

It helps to have an 11.45 team ERA. They may have been one of the worst teams in the country regardless of level last season. Delta St, LSUE, fricking Louisiana College was probably better than them.

Here is my Southern score update/commentary I posted on the Rant:
quote:
Southern loses their season opener to the University of Illinois-Chicago, 3-0. UIC is a decent program for their conference. Southern is going to struggle this season, but I do like the Kerrick Jackson hire they made. Former Mizzou assistant under Tim Jamieson, former scout, and former agent. He's got a ton of connections that will help him recruit underrated kids from around the country to Southern the way Cador used to when Southern was the perennial SWAC standard bearer.

So Luke Heimlich started for Oregon State today.

Settled in for @BeaverBaseball @UNMLoboBaseball. Great OSU crowd here. In case you were wondering, Luke Heimlich got a spirited applause during lineup announcements. Huge throng of scouts in the house.

For those wondering since I know someone will ask, #OregonState LHP Luke Heimlich declined to be interviewed after his start today. Not sure if that’ll be the case the entire season or not for the #Beavs.

lol at D1Baseball putting their scoreboard behind a paywall when there are so many other options to get the scores.

I have no idea how they meet D1 criteria. This is their home field
and here's the press box:

Starting lineup for the Cajuns
>
Robe has been high on Bourgeois. This lineup has several weak spots unless players got better at the plate. Kasuls, Stover, and Lafleur don't scare anybody.
