Good. Everyone is happy here. Now we can all stop fighting and be objective which tour is winning friends to a 2024 where we don’t have to fight anymore

A little caveat though, LIV isn’t going to release the data for whatever reason, so, people will still have to dig a little for it

LIV GOLF’s broadcast on the CW will be rated this year through iSpot and Nielsen but the league says they won’t regularly be releasing viewership data.

Their quote is beautiful

So, only ratings in the US?

Didn’t they just announce a partnership with Movistar Plus+ to broadcast tournaments in Spain?

If you would like to add the ratings for the pga tour in Europe(SkySports) as well then sure, it makes sense to also use LIV European numbers

I mean I feel like the Pga tour still has a few pretty popular European players eh?

the fact you care about this so much just says how much you don't understand. These folks do not care about ratings or losses. They have a piggy bank that would make Bezos and Musk blush, they are bleeding the competition out just for sport and the PGA fell right into it.

The PGA tour fell into what? If their ratings and such are still doing well, what harm has the tour actually taken on? From a fan of the tour, absolutely they have hurt it. But if the tours ratings and revenue is still high and climbing, what harm has been done to the entity?

That’s why these ratings will really help us see the actual harm to the Tour itself

As a fan of the Tour golf has absolutely been hurt by the Saudis. But the tour made more revenue last year, and record ratings last year, and if you beleive reports, is about to get a 3 billion investment

Seems like everyone but the fan is doing better

Nah, I think you should only use American ratings to compare the success of the American Tour vs the Global Tour. Makes sense

So the pga tour doesn’t get to add its European ratings? Why not?

I am 100% on board with adding the global ratings to each event this weekend.

The pga tour so has global broadcasters. It’s weird you think only Liv has a footprint outside the US

The pga tour still has the most popular European golfer, they still have the most popular Asian golfer as well.

There’s only one global tour

More people around the globe, not counting the US, will watch the PGA tour event this weekend over the LIV event

Last year LIV was 52% non American

Top 50 in fed ex standings for pga tour was 41% non American

Both feel equally global no?

Ehhh…. Based on where they play LIV definitely feels more global.

But I also don’t think LIV is getting incredible rankings globally either.

LIv absolutely plays more global events

But saying the pga tour isn’t a global tour when almost half its top players are from outside of America is extremely disingenuous

And the face of the tour is from Europe currently

It’s extremely disingenuous to act like I’m talking about nationality of players and not location of tournaments.

Out of the PGA’s 34 week schedule for 2024, there are 32 American Tournaments.
All of their 8 signature events are in the US.

Of the 12 LIV events, 7 of them are outside of the US. They will be in Europe 4 weeks in a row for LIV Spain, The Open, LIV UK, & The Olympics.

Currently, only 1/3 of the 54 LIV players are from US.

You can act like PGA is a global tour too, but that would be disingenuous

For one example, The eyeballs of Japan will be on the Pga tour this weekend, because their top player is on the pga tour. The fact liv plays events outside of the us won’t help their global ratings there.

Global ratings will only get a boost when the tournament is played in that particular country. The global players on the pga tour still carry their global ratings over liv

until they have a Japanese team.

How sure are you about that? Obviously Matsuyama is their most successful golfer, but Jinichiro Kozuma just qualified to play on LIV.

I wonder how many other Japanese golfers will play on Asian Tour & try to qualify for 2025?

My point is eyeballs will go to where the players are from an individual international country standpoint, not the tournaments, aside from when the tournament happens to be in that particular country

I will expect Spanish ratings to be higher for LIV for example

The PGA Tour is the better tour, there's no doubt about it. But what LIV has done/the players they have pulled in such a short time is pretty impressive, that can't be argued. They have taken a lot of good players away from the tour and have added more top players and more depth. There is legitimately good golf on LIV and it's only going to get better if a deal with the PGA isn't done. Hopefully it gets done, we don't need the Tour fields being any weaker than they already are half the time.

My thing has always been that the Tour/Jay brought this on themselves by ignoring the players and being cheap for a long time. When I say "cheap", I'm talking relative to what they had. And I never blamed a single player for bolting for money because the Tour/Jay wasn't looking out for their best interest. Especially the mid tier guys. I like pointing a finger and laughing at Jay and even more so now that he is a walking contradiction/snake oil salesman. He's weakened the sport/tour I've loved for 25 years, I can't forgive him for that. The worst commissioner in the history of pro sports.

Sorry, I vehemently disagree. I don’t think it’s impressive when a player is pulled but given 100s of millions of dollars

If they pulled them without those contracts I would agree.

And you said the tour was being cheap, they weren’t. They are now running out of money and over their skis because they have paid the players more to fry and keep up

That’s just a fact
