This LA team is mostly kids from JPRD that just started Little League this year. They all play for travel teams based in the metro area. Next year's team may be even better than this one.

It was basically the only little league in the largest metro area in the state. Last year was the first year anyone else competed with him and he lost.

All I know is that when I was growing up in the late 90s-mid 2000s playing ball, Dixie youth baseball had the better players in LA, especially in north LA and we’d have smoked the little league queers.

This is likely because of the New Orleans little league (which is a lot more complicated than just kids from Orleans Parish, from my understanding) is pulling from the surrounding areas, but you probably have a better read on it than I do.

Also, Frazier isn't coaching this team. I wonder if he's got next years team.

It's not real Little League. Dixie Youth/JPRD (minus a couple playgrounds) is dead. These are travel ball kids who play in the minimum required "little league" games in order to make the WS team.

When I played in the early-mid 2000s, the JPRD circuit was Dixie Youth. The best kids would play on the all star teams, finish the Dixie Youth season and parish tournament (and advancing through the dixie youth circuit pending on age), and then you'd go and play on travel teams for about 6 weeks.

There was no discernable little league. Frazier tried to game the system back then by pulling kids into a "league" but he fricked it up.

I've heard that Girard, Lakeshore, and maybe Pontiff are starting to get some energy back into the park systems. But I've also heard that you can decide where you want to play when you first sign up (regardless of where you live) and then, I believe, have a 1 time free transfer to a different park It's become a mess. I miss the days of kids trying to change playgrounds, the parish ruling them ineligible, and it causing huge drama amongst the parents.

But I do not know Little League rules..

Like I’m 5 and never played little league myself 45 years ago?

So if one of the coaches or parents in the stands notices a pitcher is tipping his pitches and passes that along is that no longer a part of the strategy or hell, 11 y.o. me, hey I’m blowing a FB bye you, catch it if you can, considered unsportsmanlike today?

And what in the pansy-arse is up with the girl’s softball rules of no lead-offs while on base?

This has been a little league rule for forever. It's closed baseball.

I can’t get into it. And it’ll be on for the next month every day it seems like.

Those kids are 11-12 years old. It’s time to start pitching from 50 feet instead of 46. They also should be taking leads. Move those bases back 10 feet to 70 feet. Watch Little League is like watching softball.

All this discussion and no one notices that Mike Engleberg comes out (#24) for the home run celebration?

He hasn't aged a bit from the Bad News Bears movies.

That was a rule back in the 70s up until you were with 13-year-olds. LLWS stops at 12 years old.

It’s kind of what makes 12u such a huge year for baseball. They could easily play in a bigger field, but they give the kids one last year to dominate the small field.

At 54-70 dimensions we would see more walks instead of the hit fest that makes it fun to watch.

If anyone is interested, here’s a LINK to the bracket

I doubt Frazier has next year's team. Ledet is the right man for the job. He will have 4 kids coming back from this year's team and the 11U team won state without them.

The playgrounds have lost steam again. The bigger playgrounds like Girard, Lakeshore, and Pontiff are still fairly strong but, for example, this Little League team took several kids out of the system...so even the bigger playgrounds are not as strong. Miley and Cleary have gained some steam. Miley's 10U team is undefeated in the DYB World Series, and they had to get through Pontiff and Lakeshore along the way. Cleary's 10U team beat Pontiff in district, which makes no sense considering the size of the playgrounds. Cleary's 12U team nearly won the district over Girard with 8 or 9 kids that come back next year. Miley and Cleary have largely kept themselves intact and added kids, while the other playgrounds are losing top level kids.

Do you nerds honestly think this shite is funny?

I mean sure, maybe in 2017 or something like that you could get some cheap chuckles out of this - but holy shite man, this is so played out. Why not try to come up with something original all by yourself?

East Bank has built a solid program. Ascension Parish has made a commitment to little league as well.

Travel ball and grammar schools having baseball teams now has a lot to do with playgrounds losing steam. Travel ball with weekly practices and weekend tournaments eats up a lot of the time. Plus the larger grammar schools like CBS, HC, St. Catherine, St Ann, etc have decent baseball programs that also eat up time.

East bank LL did find a loop hole in the system it appears where they can essentially pull from a very large population area to create kind of a super team. If these kids still played JPRD DY Baseball, these kids would be spread out over several teams specifically Pontiff, Lakeshore, Girard, etc.

Are these little league teams the all star team created at the end of a rec center season with 2 of the best kids from each regular season team?

East Bank LL has a league rec season. At the end of rec season, an Allstar team is chosen. East Bank’s area covers a large metro area so there are a lot of good players that play in their rec league.
