I would say this is far from PC or whatever u want to call it. It's called character and sportsmanship. Seems like based on the responses we've lost more of that than anything. If it were my daughter her arse wouldn't be playing anyways. My dad would have destroyed me if I did that as a 12 yo and my character says I should do the same. There is definitely too much PC is kids sports today but this isn't an example of that.

I agree with this. I'm actually shocked by so many people outright suggesting the punishment is too harsh. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I guarantee you this, when I was playing Little League, you wouldn't have had 6 teammates with me included doing something like this.

I think an ideal punishment would be to kick those six girls off the team and let the league advance. But I'm not sure that doing that and finding replacements is even do-able at this point.

This is a highly ridiculous situation.

Per Richmond Times Dispatch, the tournament director is from Kirkland. Not only was Atlee disqualified, but Kirkland advanced despite having already lost.

It's ridiculous what they did...but the DQ isn't ridiculous.

Little League doesn't want to be associated with young girls giving the middle finger to their opponents. This is a family friendly organization that prides itself in building character - that's their selling point to parents...not just running around to get exercise.

They couldn't ignore this...they couldn't...otherwise they would have been lambasted by parents wondering why is this okay but my kid has to cheer for the losing team after the game otherwise they get punished?

I mean that's part of Little League, the winning team does a cheer for the losing team at the end of the game - here, the girls gave them the middle finger.

It's so anti-little league code and conduct...it was a no-brainer to DQ them I suppose from the head office.

Most people like to just find something to be fake outraged about.

They got kicked out, many posters saying it's ridiculous.

Think about what you've seen from the MSB and their attitude towards situations like this. If this story came out and somehow was a big deal and then we found out the tournament directors decided to give them no punishments, I'm very confident, almost certain, the MSB would have been outraged, with many posters stating they should have been kicked out of the tournament.

Ho hum.

Remember that Chick Fil 'A guy?

He didn't flip anyone off - just complained about their gay policy.

Fired.

How many girls are on a team? Any way they could have sent home those in the photo and let the others keep playing or would they not have enough to field a full team?

Sounds like a bunch of folks on here who let their kids do whatever the hell they want. If I was 12 and flicked someone off, my mom would whoop my arse.

They didn't flip off the other team. One girl took a pic of 6 girls flipping off the camera and posted it to Snap Chat. Point blank, they were DQ'd so the host team could play on ESPN. That's really all it boils down to imo.

I'm spinning? People are acting like they lined up to shake hands and flipped off the other team.

Saying they didn't flip off the other team, just a camera, is major fricking league spin buddy. That's one of the more ridiculous stances I've read on this board.

If I shot the bird period I would have gotten punished. Are you saying what they did are acceptable because they didn't do it in their faces?

The pic was taken and posted before they even played the game.

Your point? That's irrelevant to your absurd argument that they didn't flip off the other team because it was a picture and not in person.

They were flipping off the team they beat in the Semis.........

I'm saying they did it prior to the game, to a camera, not the other team. Then they went on the field and beat that team. Next day before they're supposed to play the championship, they're DQ'd and the defeated team is handed a spot in the championship which was televised on ESPN2. The defeated team was also the host for the tournament.

I have a bigger problem with the adults taking away an opportunity for the kids to play than 6 teenagers flipping off a camera before a game. Reeks of a mom crying because her baby didn't win. So she will go find anything she can to get her kid to advance.

Atlee manager Scott Currie said after the post was called to his attention, it was deleted immediately. He arranged for his team to deliver an apology in person that night to the Kirkland players. He said after the apologies, a Kirkland coach lauded the effort.

quote:

Atlee coach Chris Mardigian said the issue was retaliation against some members of the host team who had treated the Atlee girls with less-than-ideal hospitality. Friday's game ended in a double play shortly after a baserunner from the Kirkland team was ejected for stealing signals from the Atlee team while on second base and relaying them to the batter. A Kirkland coach was ejected as well.

Richmond Paper's Story

Richmond paper says it was after the game. Washington Post says it was before the game. Reading the Richmond article, I would think it was done after the game.
