Westminster Christian-Lafayette is a feel-good story.

First year varsity program is 5-1

13 seconds left

So can you just jump offsides for an infinite amount of time and get another 40 seconds to continue to run the clock? 4th and goal from the 1 with right at 2 minutes left in the game 38-35. Kid cramps up after 20 seconds runs off the clock. They reset the clock. Start it again at 40. They run it down and jump offsides. Reset it again. Run it down. Score with 13 seconds left. Could you just continue to jump offsides and the clock never stop? Feels like the answer is yes and is a glitch in the rule book.

When we got to the 1, maybe we should have rethought the field goal and tried to run for the touchdown…
So we’re talking about an 18 yard field goal?

Chalmette people never, ever disappoint.

ETA: Looks like we have the refs conspiring against West Monroe again also. A double bonus.

It can’t be the LHSAA thread without it

Field goals in high school are hard… we played like 30 something years before we kicked our first one ever in the 60s… there are some teams out there that probably still have never made one and they’ve played for years

This needs to be a rule change. Consecutive offsides penalties needs to be a free play or the option for offense to declin it’s a no play

guessing offsides in HS isn’t a free play? It was offsides on Ponchatoula and they made us rekick, then they blocked the (extra point) and beat us 9-7
no it’s a no play

Not at all. Thats what happened. Wasn’t why WM lost. They scored on 4th down. If WM stopped them, then yeah it’s kinda a big deal that they ran the last 2 minutes off without a snap.

Seems like we saw this before though where a team ran off 5-6 minutes. That was the reason for the question. I actually thought the refs got it right MOT.

Understood, I googled it after the game

There’s probably reasons it’s different than the NFL rule that you as a ref understand better than me. I’m guessing that in high school a “free play” would be a bigger injury risk than in the NFL?

We got people saying the flag was so late Ponchatoula thought it was a celebration penalty on us

But question… have you ever heard from a coach mad a penalty wasn’t called on his team in a situation like that where it would have benefitted them?

He's small as shite and can't even find a recruiting profile for him. Doesn't McNeese, Nicholls, or SLu have to take a chance on him as at least a kick returner

I think his height/build has a lot to do with it. Hes 5'6, 150 lbs. If he was 3 inches taller and about 20 lbs heavier, he would get a few looks his way.

My nephew is 5'7" and was averaging 30+/game and has the school record for most career points in basketball and he only got one offer, which was a partial scholarship to a small JUCO. We always said if he was about 5'10", McNeese, Nicholls, etc would have been banging down his door.

the clock running and play clock resetting after a dead ball foul on the offense can’t be correct. At about 1:30 WM had a kid injured. Play clock was reset. Ball put in play snd ASH runs play around the :55 second mark ASH jumped offsides on 4th and goal from the half yard line on a sneak. I can’t imagine the running of the clock and new play clock after the offsides is correct. If it is we were dumb to ever snap it

West Monroe is looking at 5-5 this year. Crazy to think a school with the resources and enrollment they have has fallen so far down.

I'm an optimist.

Outside of the Pulaski Academy debacle, which apparently unraveled across a series of successful onside kicks, it's been encouraging.

WM did score a lot of points vs. Pulaski, but giving up 67 is a bad look for West Monroe, which prides itself on playing tougher defense (than, for instance, the teams we were discussing in District 1-5A on another thread).

Blew out an above-average Huntington team, which didn't drop another game until a close loss to Byrd this week.

Respectable loss at Catholic-BR. Was impressed by the dominance vs. North DeSoto (and Scotlandville to a lesser extent).

They were right there primed for the upset vs. ASH.

Of course, they could lose some more regular season games in the District 2-5A gauntlet. OPHS almost took down Ruston, which had flexed hard vs. stellar Texas programs.
