Last time I checked, schools could still do this, yes. Unless the LHSAA recently changed the rule, that should still be allowed.
It’s especially necessary in football. We don’t need schools like Ben Franklin getting kids seriously hurt against powerhouse teams like Karr and Warren Easton.
It’s a good rule that allows overmatched teams to field a somewhat reasonable schedule.
It looks like they were scheduled to play Covington in week 1. I’m glad that they didn’t.
They should declare not eligible for district honors and schedule some reasonable opposition imho.

Howard had to sit out a play because his helmet came off, STM Coaches wanted to call TO to get Howard back in the game. HL on the STM side told them that a Timeout does not buy Howard back into the game. Which doesnt seem right.
Unlike NCAA you can't buy a player back in with a timeout for a lost helmet or an injury

thats interesting, because you can buy back re-entry with a TO in HS basketball

a mild upset, we were writing John Curtis's obituary last week but they rebounded for a nice win over St. Aug...

one STM OL had his helmet ripped off three times in the second half, no call
I was at the game and saw this. I rewatched it last night on Youtube and linebacker 44 for Neville was getting blocked pretty good by the STM O-lineman and got in his head. It's hard to believe not one penalty was called after ripping his helmet off and then standing over him like he had accomplished something.

Broadmoor, Tara, and Lee high were legit great neighborhood schools and had the old school Americana like a John Hughes movie
Then one horrific vote in the 80s ruined everything

Forced bussing
Clearly, schools were already integrated. But in true woke fashion, BR Democrats passed a ruling where they were going to make public schools 50/50 on race. So even if you lived in the neighborhood right next to Tara, they would bus you into the ghetto to go to that high school, and also they would bus ghetto kids into high schools in the nice neighborhood
So naturally, every parent that had the means to pulled their kids from public schools. Now bussing doesn’t exist anymore, but it compeltely ruined the perception of public schools in south Louisiana
It makes no sense why a public school in a great neighborhood is a piece of shite but that’s how it is here

Pretty sure the same thing happened in Shreveport. My mom couldn't afford private school so that's one of the reasons we moved less than mile across the state line in Texas.

The point was those schools would have ended up like that some type of way, not necessarily because of busing…

Without forced bussing, Lee High, Tara, and Broadmoor(albeit a lesser extent here) would have continued as fine schools

the issue was much bigger than just Baton Rouge
the same things happened in Lafayette and Shreveport from forced bussing

I would imagine it happened multiple places, I just can’t speak to those areas

Some… yes, but others in Shreveport are essentially 2 different schools like Byrd and Shreve. Inner school magnet programs saved some good schools while rightfully integrating them.. what it does though is really hurt many elementary/ middle schools with athletics. There really isn’t any feeder school system.. it’s also why schools like Byrd are full of shite when they talk about recruiting. They recruit just like schools down here is S LA thus why they are a “Select”
