How does a private Catholic school get so good? So good as to be named #1 in the state?

Who is considered ECA’s best team? 99? I think the one with Hester and Booty is vastly underrated/never mentioned. They beat WM 35-4 in the Dome that year and 49-21 I believe at WM during the regular season. Hester ran for 250 and 4 touchdowns I think at WM. That’s the best team I saw from them. The 99 team escaped WM in the Dome with broken play jump balls to Brent Rawls. WM lost RB Tramissian Davis, Tech/Saints, in the semifinals in 99. If he plays I don’t know who wins.

The #4 Kid on GK impressed me. Played both sides of the ball and was playing hard into the 4th QTR

He was good. I was also impressed by the Running Back Barnes, and the QB was decent. There were several bad shotgun snaps, not sure what happened there. The other running back Bouie #5 was pretty good as well.

And I'll say this. There was one play in the first half where GK was on offense and the Chalmette player tackled the GK player right on the sideline. It looked like a legal hit but it was close. There was a little bit of jawing going on and all of GK's offensive lineman came rushing over to make sure there were no issues.

You don't go to defend your RB if you don't care about your team. So those guys seem to be outmanned but clearly they do care. Just wish they had some people to support them.

But maybe it's just a East Bank Jefferson thing. Last time Bonnabel played at CHS... it was the same thing. Like 30 fans.

Tougher than West Monroe. More athletic than Warren Easton. More physical than Acadiana. Smarter than Good Counsel.

With a kicker making 50 yarders and a punter booming 70 yarders.

Almost as complete as prime ECA and WM.

Unlike New Orleans... They have no competition for players... What other large Catholic school is in BR?

if it was intentional it was a weird strategy, but effective I guess

one STM OL had his helmet ripped off three times in the second half, no call

they would put their hands under the face mask and push up on it

the one on Howard was perhaps incidental, but putting the helmet behind the end zone was intentional

go to 3:04

Howard had to sit out a play because his helmet came off, STM Coaches wanted to call TO to get Howard back in the game. HL on the STM side told them that a Timeout does not buy Howard back into the game. Which doesnt seem right.

For me, the most jaw-dropping score this week is Liberty (formerly Lee High) beating Broadmoor 60-0.

Liberty is a magnet school that only re-started a Varsity football program a couple years ago. Broadmoor hasn’t been good for a while, but damn…

I saw them play East Ascension a few years ago when they were 5A. They might have had 25 kids suited up. It's bad. It's really bad. They probably have 1200 kids and you can only find that many boys to play ball?

It’s really bad at Broadmoor. They don’t have a single fan in the stands for their kids.

I can't think of a 4-5A school worse off in general than Broadmoor right now. That includes Orleans Parish and Shreveport/Bossier. I'm sure there are some on their level, but not worse.

I mean, they were McKinley's cupcake.

Iirc, schools used to be able to declare that they aren’t competing for district honors allowing them to schedule teams of a similar ability. I’m going off of memory so I could be way off. If I am remembering correctly, can schools still do this?

Last time I checked, schools could still do this, yes. Unless the LHSAA recently changed the rule, that should still be allowed.

It’s especially necessary in football. We don’t need schools like Ben Franklin getting kids seriously hurt against powerhouse teams like Karr and Warren Easton.

It’s a good rule that allows overmatched teams to field a somewhat reasonable schedule.

Because EBR public schools are terrible and their athletic programs get no support. No kid wants play sports at a traditional public school in BR.

Imagine you’re the parent of an athletically gifted 8th grader and live in Broadmoor or Tara’s attendance zone. If you have any ability to send them elsewhere, you’re going to do it.

the game was supposed to be at Joe Yenni today but they moved it before they got the word Yenni was ready for action…

I hope they at least beat Higgins and Riverdale to reward those kids for sticking with it, and they have a real chance. Last night was their closest game against CHS in the last decade
