Saw some very low scoring games. It seems like the Burton coliseum is a very hard place to shoot in. Also several teams in the finals as soon as they got a lead they would slow things down and stop doing what got them the lead and let the other team back in the game.Liberty jumped out on STM 22-0,and they also stoppped doing what got them the lead
and almost cost them the game. Officials nothing to say but very inconsistent. I am sure the STM coach could probably say alot about his game. Franklin high was fun to watch very quick and super athletic. Ponchy was the best team overall, not going to say Newman because they may not even have a trophy in a few weeks. Great article on Andscape about that situation.

Looks like the officials didn’t let Zachary advance to take another title away from Ponchy this time. Congrats greenies

The refs from the girls finals at SLU to the boys refs at McNeese, they were all very inconsistent with their calls. I know basketball is a hard sport to call but I thought the LHSAA put the best refs from the season in these games. From what was shown, these refs were the bottom tier.

Most teams play in a gym where the goal hangs off a wall. In an arena where the goal is free standing - changes the shooters depth perception

Actually the LHSAA doesn't assign them. There are 12 basketball official's associations around the state.

Championship games are divided up equally and rotated bye years for some as there aren't 12 championship games(the association without a title game may get an extra quarters or semis game). Different regional associations are well different - just like every other sport some are much larger than others as well.

As in all sports each association does it's own training and grading.

Also no playoff crews come from the home association of either school - so what can and does happen is that late in playoffs you can get a crew used to mostly smaller schools getting the bigger schools - the depth an speed difference between the larger classes and smaller can be extreme.

no, most play on goals that hang from the ceiling

we used to struggle with Thbodeax, Monroe, NOLA and Shreveport crews because they called the playoff games very loosely. Baton Rouge, LC, Alexandria were tighter. Lafayette Association had a tight reputation as well.

Alexandria Michael Silver
Baton Rouge Harry Jenkins
Hammond Leland Sykes
Lafayette Daniel Gautreaux
Lake Charles Kerry Rigmaiden
Leesville Will Norris
Monroe William Lee
New Orleans Chuck Dorvin
Opelousas James Rix
Ruston Mike Thibodeaux
Shreveport Mike Theus
Thibodaux Travis Ward

Been said, long ago, the LHSAA needs to institute the shot clock, say what you want the cost of it is, everybody had to adapt when the play clock was instituted for football, get it over with, its needed.

Get this out of Lake Charles and back to the Cajundome! Congrats to everybody who won.

Happy for my Warhorses on #10. I did not think this team had the fire in them to get it done and they proved me and so many others wrong.

I've been saying it on LSL, I think this was Coach Smith's last go 'round, and if so what a way to go out on the floor and now we wait on April 6 to see if he makes it into the Naismith Hall of Fame, as he is a finalist this year.

Go Warhorses!

I’d rather see it come back to Baton Rouge, but the Cajundome would be far better than Burton.

The Top 28 at the cajundome was always well attended.
I could see it back in BR when they eventually build the new PMAC.

That is the only way I think it should return to Baton Rouge, but the Cajundome, just worked for everybody, extremely well.

I think he means there is a backdrop to the goals that is a wall in most High School basketball facilities. I remember when my son was in high school, the team always hated Burton because the way the goals/backboards were situated seemed to affect their perception when shooting, a lot of space between the backboard and anything behind it. Like many sports, basketball can often be a head game as much as a physical skills game.

Are there still teams that don’t play on a complete (wide enough) court?

As much as I would love this, it isn't ever coming back to the cajun dome. It's too expensive, and the cajun dome staff have shown that it's more interested in making money off the Top 28 than actually hosting it. The attendance records they set at that place may never be broken. But Burton is dirt cheap, and that may never be undone.
