Thanks for the explanation guys.

I've never viewed the soccer playoff system as a flawed one. Is there a reason they are looking to bring about this change?

I can't really speak for those who proposed it. But from what I gather there are two main factors:

First, they want LHSAA to take over the reporting duties in a formal system where the coaches have to report scores in a certain time frame after a game and are subject to whatever enforcement the LHSAA uses in other sports to make that work. (Presently, it is all volunteers trying to gather all scores and there are always a number of schools who just don't turn them in - it seems to come down to begging people to provide their schedules and scores to get anything close to a complete record). For some reason, LHSAA will apparently only undertake this duty in a power rating system

Second - When you have a group of coaches voting on seeding in a playoff system that includes their own team (although they can't vote for their own team), it just seems rife for potential if not actual conflict. (ie: if I vote team A higher than team B, how is that likely to affect my own playoff pairings). Add in things like whether schools will favor district mates or teams they know well (or maybe disfavor them in some situations) then it kind of seemed that it would be just a matter of time till something blew up with that system.

I missed pussification and the crucifixion of Jane Griffin.

yeah let's let the schools who will never see it determine the state championship format...

5A vote 33-24 to remain split

4A vote 25-16 to remain split

2A vote 34-7 to remain split

1A vote 24-8 to remain split

1A and Division IV brackets to remain putting 0-10 teams in playoffs...

we will have 8 man football in 2015...

Did they hold this as a teleconference due to the snow and ice storms? Those voting numbers seem awfully low for quite a few of the classes.

They should keep them separate and split into 40 different classifications. That way more kids can experience and win "state championships".

I will continue to cheer against Winnfield in all athletic events. Nothing was more satisfying then seeing them not get to the dome.

Seeing my alma mater make their second state semi-final was more satisfying than watching Winnfield lose before the Dome, but not by much.

Episcopal

This was the first 10-0 team in school history, the first #1 overall seed in school history, etc.

I'm hoping that SEC legend / former NFL player Jimmy Williams sticks around as an assistant coach, given that his influence on the RBs and DBs seemed to have played a big part in their success.

Evangel to 5A shortly.

Curtis to 4A if they're allowed to jump to that class and not forced all the way up to 5A.

Still have no idea how they were a #1 seed.

I seriously doubt it.. ECA 2014 not same as ECA in 2004...

Curtis has always wanted to play up in single sports.

I heard 3a is a gonna propose a class wide rule which will put JC back in 2a so Episcopal can get to enjoy them too..

10-0 with a semi-respectable power point rating gets seeded higher than 7-3 with the toughest schedule in 2A.

It helped that a couple of the teams which normally would have taken down their rating a notch, like Country Day of New Orleans, ended up being really successful in 1A last year.

What's this voting stuff.....I thought Jane Griffin was solely responsible for this split.

You guys are idiots. Every kid that plays for Winnfield has absolutely NOTHING to do with these things, yet you are going to derive joy for yourselves when they lose? How old are you?

I don't blame the kids, but that doesn't absolve their school officials from being idiots.

The same applies to Parkway, which spent the entire playoffs this past season on the road, despite being an extremely high seed, because their principal was a stupid power-tripping count who flipped off the LHSAA the previous season.

Sorry for the kids, but the school dropped the ball in how they handled things and got punished as a result.

I prefer to base this just like european soccer leagues (forgive the reference anti soccer people)

You are ranked according to power rankings. You win at that division you go up, you lose you go down. Cream of the crop is all 5A and on down. The shite teams battle it out in 1A as they should. This is the only fair way IMO.

The 3A vote was something like 36-12 to remain split.

What was interesting was that the Union principal, a non select school and State Champion of 2013, voted to merge and even pleaded with other principals to follow.

But this is high school where in one year a school could lose 18 starters to graduation.

A number of BR-area public high schools will likely be relegated to 1A over the next few years then, if they aren't already there due to being in the Recovery School District.
