re: Let’s talk about the Rays, how long do they have left in Tampa?

I just attended a game there and in Miami. Rays stadium is a better baseball experience than Miami ballpark.
Also you should attend a home game for the Oakland As. Now THAT is the worst baseball stadium I've ever been to.

And they play in the AL East, so you would think playing the Yankees and Red Sox a lot, would attract a lot of people to those games, and other games against big AL teams

Someone who lived there said the stadium is a nightmare to get to. Dunno the truth behind that, but it makes sense.
It is. Even when you’re coming in from St. Pete and the beaches. Right time of day and it’s horrible traffic.

I’ll be at the Trop tonight with 4000 of my fellow Rays fans.
It’s sad. Best record in AL. I’ll be shocked if they are still in Bay area in 2028. Trop lease expires in 2027.

So weird. Their metro area has a population well over 2 million people and the city unabashedly supports the Bucs and Lightning.
Maybe an outdoor stadium in Tampa would be more feasible or an outdoor stadium in St. Pete? The area is definitely growing too.
Having lived in Tampa when they made the World Series a dozen years ago, I can tell you the reason they don't draw a crowd is due to their stadium being in St. Pete.
No one from Tampa wants to go over there. Putting a new stadium there would do absolutely nothing to increase attendance.

The Rays’ stadium is a palace compared to the dump the A’s play in

A good comparison to would be the Lightning play at Smoothie King Center and the Rays play in Slidell.
The stadium’s are 21 miles apart.
I love baseball and loved watching the Braves play there but I have no desire to ever make a weekday trip from Tampa again. The number of area folks who feel similarly is not small. Put it near downtown Tampa or Ray Jay and people will properly adjust.
I'm convinced there is a sufficient market for the Rays but it's not in Pinellas. It needs to be in Hillsborough.

This is 100% accurate.
The Bucs and Lightning ownership also put a lot back into the community around Tampa, the Rays do not and I’m assuming that is because they are in St. Pete, or may be due to the ownership itself.

I much prefer downtown St.Pete as a place to go and hang out, but the stadium needs to be in Tampa. S

I completely agree, my wife and I love to go to St. Pete and hang out around downtown. with the expansion of Water Street in Downtown Tampa, we are finding there are a few more things to do around Tampa now with Sparkman Wharf and Ybor City which bodes well for a new stadium on this side of the bay.

They won’t even sell out playoff games.

Is the bar right outside the stadium still there? The one that is overun with Red Sox and Yankee fans when they are in town?
I just remember going to it probably 10 years ago to watch a Rays vs Yank game and fights broke out left and right in that bar.

Where would they build one in Tampa?

They are stuck in the current dump until 2027. I imagine there is a deep pocketed businessman in Montreal that would love to bring the Expos back. Would Nashville support a team?

A crowd of 5,460 on Monday followed up by 4790 in yesterday’s game. This just simply isn’t sustainable.
I understand they play in a giant circus tent but those are just truly pathetic numbers.
Also, they’re a first place team.
Are you trying to find a way to get a Major League Baseball team in Tennessee?
