Let’s talk about the Rays, how long do they have left in Tampa?

A crowd of 5,460 on Monday followed up by 4790 in yesterday’s game. This just simply isn’t sustainable.
I understand they play in a giant circus tent but those are just truly pathetic numbers.

Also, they’re a first place team.

They seem to still be touting the dual city thing with Montreal but I don’t know how realistic that is. I think their current stadium deal makes it very difficult to leave for while

I don't see this ever happening simply because who would want to play for them? You would theoretically be on the road 75% of the time. As in away from where they live during the season.

Yeah there’s a lot of potential issues I think, that being one of them

So weird. Their metro area has a population well over 2 million people and the city unabashedly supports the Bucs and Lightning.

Maybe an outdoor stadium in Tampa would be more feasible or an outdoor stadium in St. Pete? The area is definitely growing too.

They supposedly have really great tv numbers and an elderly following that wants to stay home and watch on tv.

Where do they go other than Montreal?

Nashville or Vegas?

Someone who lived there said the stadium is a nightmare to get to. Dunno the truth behind that, but it makes sense.

Tampa has been invaded by yankees.

NY, NJ, PA, MASS, etc.

There aren't many true Rays fans.

You do not want to drive there from the Tampa side. It takes a long time and traffic builds up.

There really isn't much around the stadium as well. One short strip of restaurants but nothing that draws you to the area.

The stadium is by far the WORST professional sports venue I have ever watched a game

there has to be some clause in their building contract that will let them out of their lease. Hell, have the next city foot part of the bill

I've heard this as well. Stadium is in a terrible location. Attendance is still pretty pathetic for them and the Marlins. South Florida should be able to support these teams.

I don't know anything about downtown Tampa-St Pete. Is the baseball stadium not somewhere close to the arena that the Lightning play in? They've got rabid fans there for a Stanley Cup team, surprised they can't get anywhere close to that for a WS contender. Maybe the Trop really sucks that bad.

A good comparison to would be the Lightning play at Smoothie King Center and the Rays play in Slidell.

The stadium’s are 21 miles apart.

I think one of their biggest problems is that they aren't in Tampa.

Tampa Bay, Miami, Oakland, and Toronto have all averaged fewer people per home game this year than 4 SEC baseball teams

Their lease in Tropicana doesn’t expire until 2027 so not until then.

and Toronto

Not really fair to include them, they played a lot of games early this season in Dunedin, Florida at their A-ball stadium which never broke 2,000 people and then switched to Buffalo, a AAA stadium.

Their games back in Toronto haven't been great attendance, but far better than their average.

I’m guessing the covid restrictions in Toronto are strict as hell too

There has been a push to open up talks again with the Hillsborough County commission (Tampa) about building a new stadium in the Ybor City area of Downtown Tampa. There is hope that that a new stadium in Tampa will keep the team here as opposed to a multi city team...Which doesn't make much sense for the other teams in MLB as that would give the Rays a larger market cap for merch sales and tickets.

It make ZERO sense for the players as now they will have their checks cut in half due to the tax increases for not playing 1/2 of your home games in a taxless state
