Probably, but he'll be torn on who would be the better Laker between him and Kobe 5 years or so from now.

Pat Riley Statement on LeBron James
MIAMI, June 24 – The following statement was released today:
“I was informed this morning of his intentions. We fully expected LeBron to opt-out and exercise his free agent rights, so this does not come as a surprise. As I said at the press conference last week, players have a right to free agency and when they have these opportunities, the right to explore their options. The last four seasons have been historic and LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Erik Spoelstra have led the Miami HEAT to one of the most unprecedented runs in the history of the NBA. We look forward to sitting down with LeBron and his representatives and talking about our future together. At the moment, we are preparing for the opportunities in the Draft and Free Agency as we continue with our goal of winning NBA Championships.”
In other words....

LeBron James reportedly views a sign-and-trade deal sending him to the Clippers as "intriguing," but a return with the Heat remains his "primary consideration."
According to the report by Adrian Wojnarowski, LeBron doesn't want to make any decisions until he sits down with Dwyane Wade and Chris Both to discuss Pat Riley's plans to improve Miami's roster. Every team in the league would love to sign LeBron, of course, and the Rockets, Bulls and Cavaliers are also contenders for his services.

If Paul or Griffen aren't coming back, I tell them to suck a dick and take my chances with getting nothing and James going to a team with cap space.

I get the championships argument, but bron would be dumb as hell to come back to the heat unless dwade and bosh take major pay cuts, which I don't see happening due to wade's inflated ego. His best chance is to go elsewhere

Can someone simplify sign and trades? What's to stop a team agreeing to one and then not trading the player once he signs the contract?

Great so he can go to the Lakers and the NBA can become even more top-heavy.

I don't know of any specifics, but it would guarantee that the team would never convince a player to S&T ever again.

A sign and trade is treated as a single transaction. A team cannot sign a player then refuse to trade him if a sign and trade was the original arrangement that was agreed upon. The signing would become null and void at that point.

I'd love to know when the NBA wasn't top heavy...
