elevates Brent Dearmon to OC

Kansas football has fired offensive coordinator Les Koenning, head coach Les Miles announced in a statement Sunday. Senior offensive consultant Brent Dearmon was promoted to fill the role.

The decision came one day following the Jayhawks' 45-20 home loss to No. 6 Oklahoma.

“I would like to thank Coach Koenning for his contributions to Kansas Football,” Miles said in the statement. “This was a difficult decision, but it is in the best interest of our football program both now and in the future. There is still a lot of football left to play this season and I want to put our players in the best position to be successful, which is why I am making the change now.”

must not be running Les's narrow closed offense.

Dearmon came to KU fresh off a one-year head coaching stint where he produced the nation’s highest-scoring offense at any level in 2018. In his one season leading his alma mater, Bethel University, Dearmon guided the Wildcats to their best season in school history. BU posted a 10-0 regular season mark and a No. 3 ranking, while averaging 540.3 yards and a nation’s best 55.0 points per game, the highest scoring offense not just in NAIA, but in all of college football.

Prior to his time at Bethel, Dearmon spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Division II Arkansas Tech and two seasons as an analyst on Gus Malzahn’s staff at Auburn

He just grabbed him quick after Lindsey left for Troy. He probably doubted Koenning the whole time.

Probably wanted to throw it when Kansas was on their own 7 with a 3rd and five, but Les overruled him and ran the toss dive for a loss of five. They sucked badly after that play.

The OC may have had a fit that Les overrode his call to pass and well, as said above, there can only be one Les calling the plays.

Maybe we should have constantly filmed Les Miles and made a weekly TV show and then he would have made changes

Make no mistake. This isn’t Les evolving. It’s him being uncomfortable straying from his core offensive philosophy.

Les gets a pass for this season and the next 2 or 3 because of the situation he inherited...yet he's firing coordinators 5 weeks into a season, and this is after the biggest point margin upset in NCAA history...huh?
