No. Are you insinuating that NBA players in the 70s were working as plumbers?

quote:

Did Einstein need to be a physical specimen to come up with his theory of relativity?

Giannis would be one of the tallest, quickest, strongest, and best ball handler in the league. No one was stopping him.

The issue with your argument, and all arguments comparing players in different eras, is that you are inserting a modern player into the past, yet you are letting the modern player have access to modern training, nutrition, coaching etc., but not the old era players. It's idiotic.

The idea that players from the 70s would not ALSO benefit from modern training, nutrition and coaching is retarded.

And if the players in that era WERE working offseason jobs (they weren't as that stopped mostly in the early 60s), then Giannis would also be working an offseason job.

Or in your scenario, does he also get to keep all his money from a 2025 NBA contract, while actually playing in the 70s?

And if we are getting technical, Giannis's family never would've left Africa for Greece and he likely would've never even played basketball.

Or do we get to pick and choose our realities from the era?

The frick it has to do with it is the dream team never lost to Spain. These players today don't have the competitive spirit of Jordan, Bird, Magic, Ewing, Miller. Analytics don't measure heart and grit

Five straight gold medals, what are you on.

The game has expanded globally, that doesn't mean American players are somehow worse than American players 30 years ago. They're better in every conceivable way.

Any one who argues that the Dream Team would beat the current squad simply doesnt understand why the league became what it became.

Dream Team isn't losing to anyone at any time or any era. That nerd from Duke should have been replaced by Shaq. The only spot that LeBron may have been able to take was Chris Mullins' spot - but that should have gone to Isaiah and LeBron isn't displacing Isaiah because they're not doing the same things on the court. That is the greatest assemblage of talent for one team in the history of team sports. Maybe Soviet hockey would rival them, maybe.

The funny part about all this is LeBron’s incredibly long career bridges the eras. The first part of his career pre-dates the foul-baiting, three-point happy league we know today. In LeBron’s first 5-10 seasons, the League averaged around 95 points per game, and around 17.5 3PA per game. Today, those numbers are 113.7 and 37.5.

Good lord there are some idiots in here.

MJ was straight dogshit on the Dream Team. But old folks sure are impressed by his 1 on 1 defense against the little Angolan kid.

I truly don’t think there’s a dumber lot out there than folks who don’t think LeBron/Giannis could play basketball in the 70s/80s/90s.

Point remains… 250 points still means a minimum of 126 possessions short of getting a FT with every shot he hits.

How many possessions are there in a game right now and how often do they result in points?

Christ, what is the highest four quarter score for a team in NBA history? Not fricking 250.

Answer is 183 by the Pistons circa 1983.

LeBron is suggesting that Giannis could break the entire game just by existing in the 70s.

How do you figure?

Jordan was an absolute scrub on that team. Magic and Bird were washed up weren’t they? Stockton didn’t do shite.

Jordan blocked Isaiah Thomas from making the team because he was a baby back bitch and couldn’t beat his Pistons for a while.

And they were playing a bunch of absolute scrubs compared to the international teams we play now.

You’re leaving the skill gap out of it though. Today’s players are simply better, like every other sport on earth.

It's unfair to limit players from the 1970s to their style of play while giving today's players the advantage of over 50 years of basketball development.

It is a dumb comparison.

If Giannia was born in 1950, players today would talk about dominating his arse.
