caught up this morning on the rest day. Man I thought we (USA) would have a stage winner and a clear leader in the KOM, but woods was too strong. Powless is the big leader right now in the KOM hope he can keep it to Paris.
edit: POG still the stronger rider right now, but this is far from over.

On the rest day, saw a couple interviews:
Jonas
Thinks the first week went well, did not expect to be in yellow so early, thinks his best stages are left to come. People are inferring that he's referring to the Alps.
Pogacar
Says he is feeling better as time goes on. I guess the injury had some lingering effects and he's still getting better form as the race moves along.
About Jonas' comments regarding the future (Alps) stages being well suited for him, Pog says, "we will see". In print his comments might seem confrontational but on video they are not. He's just saying 'we'll see how things go for both of us' essentially.
Says he was surprised at how he lost time on Marie Blanc(sp?)
Seems both are confident. I guess it's up to mistakes made and team support and then the random mechanical or whatever. I do agree the Alps will be good for Jonas, but I don't know if they'll be bad for Pogacar.
I have no idea how this will turn out. After tomorrow the Tour is halfway done. Next two weeks could be incredible.

We've really fallen on the international stage.
There aren't even any halfway prestigious races in the US anymore. No more Cali or Colorado stage races, Utah looks like it's dead for good. The Philly race hasn't been run for years and stripping it of national championship status took some luster away anyway. There was even a Tour de Georgia during the 2000s.

Saw it in Carrollton. Even Lance rode in it in his prime. That’s how much it has fallen in the US. Saying that, it’s weird bc cycling itself seems to be as popular as ever here.
Stage 10 underway now. Could be a day of substantial attrition.

Latour in Le Tour. He may make it solo today!
edit: Oops that's not Latour and he got caught

Road racing is effectively dead in the US. As of now we have Tour of Gila and Joe Martin stage race left and who knows how long those will continue to last.

Someone on 4chan said that closing roads for bike races has become unacceptable to Americans and is why gravel is more popular here

When did the Tour of Missouri and Tour of California stop running? It’s been 5 years at least correct?
Posted on 7/11/23 at 1:11 pm to sms151t
Tour or California died after 2019 I believe. Tour of Missouri I have no idea
Yep it was 2019. I remember that was the first time I noticed a kid named Tadej pogacar

I can’t find this tour live on TV at all, WTF. Pisses me off.

The Tour of California was when I first heard of this cat Peter Sagan, there's an impressive list riders that won the Tour
Wiggins (TdF winner)
Julian A (Multi time Yellow wearer)
Bernal (TdF winner)
Horner
Teejay
Leipheimer
Landis (TdF winner)

The best part of the Tour of California was who sponsored it.
Amgien who is one of the leading producers of EPO.

Ask the OT how they would feel if a bike race got between them and a Bucees.

I've heard some criticism of TJV today, trying to chase the break. Did they burn matches unnecessarily?

I don't think they worked that hard and at one point Wout and MVDP got away for whatever reason and that took any pressure off of Jumbo.
Maybe Wout should have taken it little easier but Jayco was the team that really spent energy trying to limit the damage Bilbao was doing to Yates on GC.
