He absolutely could not spin it as self defense on a trespasser simply because the guy wasn't certified

Now there is an argument to be made that Barbe bears some of the liability because they hired an unqualified person to supervise minors. At best you're getting 20% comparative fault on that, but if you take it to trial, in front of an LC jury that I'm assuming likes Barbe more than the player, you'd be lucky to get that.

But that would only effect the results of a civil suit and would have no bearing on whatever hearing they have to determine Victorian's expulsion status. This isn't a Court of Law.

He will likely be expelled from Barbe which mean no College nor Major team will touch him.
Also.... let's not pretend that professional orginizations don't look the other way for much worse offenses. He was borderline first round pick territory. Worst case scenario, he'll go play in a Mexican/Domincan/Korean/Australian league for a couple years and then be posted and get picked up by someone in the states.

Sure, Division 1 baseball is likely out of the question, but this won't prevent him from having a shot to make it to the MLB.

Schools hire volunteers all the time. You get the state police back ground check, take some state issued training and you’re good to go. Lawyers will throw everything against the wall and hope something sticks.

I hope they expel him just for him to rat them out about all the recruiting they are doing behind the scenes

what recruiting? pretty much everyone in the team grew up in LC but landon and the freshman from sulphur. both moved to LC legally.

so what kids did they recruit?

as far as having uncertified teacher being S&C coach...he was never supervising kids by himself. coaches were there whole time.

brether, respectively, you have talked positively about this kid for years, so it is a little shocking that all of a sudden you are making him out to be some shitbag.

Can a student be expelled for having a knife on a school campus regardless of any possible altercation? Is possession enough?

Yes

I have seen it reduced to suspension, but never when it was pulled during an altercation

This kid was never attending college anywhere. This is a kid/family/Barbe problem only, not an LSU problem

i have not made him to be that at all. i said what he did was completely out of line for his character and in fact the way he has been acting since coming back from football has been out of line.

do i think he is a bad person or kid...nope...but he made a mistake the size of the grand canyon.

this whole year he has been acting like a shitbag as far as grades, leadership etc.

very different than in years past. i do know his home life has deteriorated but that is still not an excuse to do what he did.

its not just the pulling of the knife. its the premeditation, its what he said when he did it etc

bottom line is that actions have consequences period. most of the kids that go to barbe to play are kids from upper middle class and wealthy families. Want to essentially torpedo your program...yea excuse this type of behavior and watch how fast Chad and SH is owning the state.

IDK if this is true as I have zero knowledge of anything but reading this makes me think of a situation when I was in HS.

It was the other way around but our starting QB (returning starter) also played baseball and they made it very far in the summer league (legions I think its called ) meaning the starter had to miss the very beginning of fall camp. The football coaching staff then punished the QB by making him split reps for 3 games with the backup saying that the backup earned it by being at all of fall camp. The punishment spontaneously ended in week 3 when we lost by a FG due to only scoring on drives when the actual starter was in the game.

In our case, the QB was a mild mannered kid that was baseball first and admittedly only played football because he knew our team would be worse without him. He had no real love for the game, just his friends. He was able to remain calm during the very unjust handling of him missing time due to ANOTHER sport he was playing for the SAME school. But I could easily see this being much more of an issue for a less level headed kid.

I am wondering if he was being given shite for missing stuff due to football when everyone knows his future is in baseball.

This obviously doesn't excuse what the kid did and it won't help him avoid any consequences but it would maybe explain the tension between player and coaches.

Or the kid could just be a VERY troubled individual with little to no coping skills.

no idea.

but he has been playing football for the whole time of HS so doubt it would be an issue now all of the sudden.
