why? Its brought more power to the conferences and is only speeding up the inevitable break from the NCAA which would be a good thing

I miss rivalry games. I miss the Big East. 14 teams in a conference is a joke

Rivalries and traditions are what really separated college football from the NFL. Realignment took some of that away. College football was a better sport when Texas/A&M, Pitt/WVU, and Kansas/Missouri were staples of Thanksgiving weekend. The less regional it gets, the more it just feels like NFL lite, which is not what college football should be.

Not to mention you know the league is too big when you see a conference opponent about once every five years or so

the conference formerly known as the Big East in football still exists. It’s called the American Athletic Conference. And you no longer consider it as “major”

while i'm not fan of the NCAA, conference expansion has killed many great rivalries and classic old matchups for one. Teams like Missouri in the SEC, Nebraska and even worse Maryland and Rutgers in the B1G just don't fit WVU in the Big12 is a joke

Sure, but Pitt/WVU playing to open a season as a non conference game doesn't have the same meaning as it used to. Also, they'll play for 2 or 4 years and then move on. That was a truly underrated rivalry, by the way. Most people who haven't spent time in that area don't realize how much hatred those fans have for each other.

Stop it.

There would be plenty fantastic games.

No one said they wouldn’t be good games.

But if you believe that the Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta Bowl committees will be perfectly fine with never getting the top four teams, then I don’t know what to tell you.

A&M-UT have no plans to play. Neb-OU are scheduled twice, after that.....

wut?

a couple of one off two game series is not what I would call "essentially all the rivalry games are back".

College football has changed so much in the last ten years, it's really hard to put the genie back in the bottle.

Even as recently as the Ohio State title game appearances under Jim Tressel, the majority of the players on the roster were from Ohio, and the vast majority were from the region. I grew up in an era when Ohio State always had 6 or more players from my neck of the woods on the roster. This year they have 1. I once watched a single game involving Kirk's old high school that had 4 players on the field going to Columbus. I'm sure you guys down south saw similar things years ago.

The Buckeyes are now Nike Headquarters Midwest. Guys come from Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, even Idaho and Washington...I mean, this is a big-time business operation. It's like the prep academy phenomenon that's infecting high school basketball. They go to Ohio State, basically, because the numbers show they will likely go to the NFL.

That's why it's championship or bust. The top programs operate within that framework at an unprecedented level.

Kirk is a dickboy, goes on national tv and cries and then asks what’s happening to sports. He’s the type taking all the fun out of sports.

Texas vs AM
Nebraska vs OU
Kansas vs Mizzou
Miami vs Florida

None of those are happening so rivalries aren't back

but that's besides the point, you said winning the conference was important, TWICE now Alabama was finished 2nd in the SEC West and won the national title. You would not trade 2011 seasons with LSU or 2017 seasons with UGA. Winning the conference is devalued. In fairness i guess to Bama, it started in 2001 and 2003.
These arguments are ridiculous
