Someone also mentioned that the playoff games shouldn’t use the Major Bowl game names and I absolutely agree. The semi finals and NCG can be played in Miami or Pasadena or New Orleans, but don’t let it be called or replace the Orange/Rose/Sugar/etc.

I don’t understand this complaint. If the top 4 aren’t in the bowls that will not restore interest in the big bowls.

And throw ESPN’s arse out of any influence or input on the playoff committee. Actually just do away with the committee. Use the old BCS formula with some tweaks.

I know everyone loves to bash ESPN like it’s their fault but it’s not they just respond to the market ie demand. They also just air the playoff rankings they don’t actually have anything to do with the committee or College Football Playoff which is a separate entity.

Also I know bashing the committee has also been poplar but BCS consisted of polls that are way less accountable than the committee and computer rankings that are just models created by stats geeks that are proprietary and hence not transparent. We know the committee watches the games and meets to debate the rankings that’s way better than the BCS or polls. Plus I believe people had used the old BCS formulas as best they could and you get the same results anyway

No idea but sounds like something Bama would do.

Ding ding ding

They also “won” the AP NC in 64 when it was awarded before the bowls and lost their bowl game. The next year the AP decided to wait until after the bowls. Bama went in #4, UCLA and Arkansas were 1-2 and lost, Bama beat #3 Nebraska and presto.. another MNC for the Bear

I went to the Texas Bowl a couple of times, i don’t think it was $75, i didn’t pay that anyway but both games Texas v Arkansas and LSU v Texas Tech had pretty big crowds. Now one year when it was Kansas St v Syracuse the crowd was much smaller

I bash the committee as they change the requirements for entry. Nobody knows what you’re supposed to do to get in. As I posted before Long and the original committees made a point of championships matter. Hocutt then personally dropped that and said best team. Problem is they’ve never defined what a best team is since Hocutt chaired the committee.

They also destroy specific teams based on names.

I remember the Tech FSU Sugar Bowl. I paid 55 bucks for a ticket and there were empties in the Dome. So adjust that by 15 years a BCS Title game cost probably 80 bucks?

Back to committee. They only need to produce a ranking once a year at end of the CCG

that's a legitimate complaint, i wish they set a universal standard from the beginning (my preference was top 4 conference winners) but as you noted the committee changed members over the years but that's different than people just hating the idea of the committee. There's a committee for the basketball tourney but no one really bashes it i guess because there are 68 teams. But that's the thing with college sports, someone will have to select at least some of the teams, you can give auto bids (like basketball) to conference champs but the rest of the field is selected, subjectively and there will always be the first team out, whether its #3, #5, #9, #17 or #33 someone will gripe. Overall i think the committee has done fine, some minor complaints is all we've really had.

100% this, the made for TV rankings show is just a meaningless circus that cause unnecessary angst. I can't tell you how many arguments i got into with LSU fans last year over this it ultimately played out exactly like i predicted. LSU would be #1 if we beat Bama, 2 weeks later tOSU we be #1 if they beat Penn State and Michigan while we were playing Arkansas and A&M and LSU would be #1 in the end if we beat a top 5 ranked UGA
