He'll also have to explain it to Cousins, who apparently was not alerted about the pick and was both "shocked" and "disappointed."

Silly to be upset about competition all while making that much money.

LOL it's funny try to think how this reads without knowing anything about American football.
Some guy in the UK sees this headline, wondering why some guy is upset with a dick-pic and why it made headlines in the US Sports conversation

They gave him $100 million guaranteed. I’m sure he’ll find a way to get over it.

I doubt he's upset about the competition, I'm sure he is upset of the failure to add a weapon on offense or pass rusher on defense that can help them win. A back up QB does nothing to help you win now.

really?

Of all people Cousins is the least worried about competition. The falcons made a pick that 100% can’t help Cousins and 100% can’t help the falcons either as long as Kirk is playing

In the history of Falcon QB's, he certainly is.

Cousins likely wouldn't have signed with the Falcons had he known they would blow a top 10 pick on his replacement. This idiotic pick will probably hurt the Falcons ability to sign free agents down the road.

He has a pretty solid arsenal, good WRs a fantastic TE and RB already.
And teams need to still build for the future.
Should be happy with what he has

What?

Maybe if the game was decided based on draft pick position.

Robinson is great but still a stupid pick.

If you are the gm for the falcons you have now set yourself up for basic guaranteed failure

If penix starts soon you wasted 100 millions on cousins

If penix doesn’t start you picked a complete waste for the next 4 years

GMs don’t get to wait 4 years for their pick to make sense

wat? Their best WR is Drake London. Their next best receiver had 250 yards last year. Pitts has been a bust.

They have needs all over the field and went with...quarterback, the one need they filled 2 months ago.

exactly why I have no idea how people are defending this pick. Even if Penix is a hit you don’t have the luxury of building a team on a rookie QB deal because of the cash you gave to cousins, and on the other hand if Kirk is Great for them you just wasted a top 10 pick that won’t see the field for 4 years at least!

Falcons GM resume

- Drafted a tight end fourth overall over Ja’Marr Chase, Micah Parsons, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith

- Drafted Drake London over Garrett Wilson and Kyle Hamilton

- Passed on Jalen Carter to draft a runningback at pick 8

- Drafted a 24 year old QB with 7 ACL tears a month after signing a free agent QB to a four year deal (Passed on Rome Odunze, Laiatu Latu, and Dallas Turner)after laying 100 million plus to a QB

I cant imagine a worse way to build for the future than to sign an aging vet QB to a $180M contract ($100M guaranteed) for four years and then wasting the 8th overall pick on a 24 yr old rookie QB with the mobility and knees of a 50 year old construction worker and then sit him on the bench for at least two years while the clock on his rookie deal ticks away.

They would have been much better served trading the pick to one of the many teams trying to deal for it (getting a 2025 first round pick and other compensation), and taking their QB of the future next year with one of their two first round picks, delaying the rookie contract time table.

Or, here is a thought, maybe drafting a player that fits into the win now strategy they committed to when signing Cousins? Like Odunze who went with the next pick?

This 100%. They more or less just signaled that they signed him on as a placeholder during a rebuild and there won't be a commitment to winning during his tenure. A pick that should have been used to help him succeed on the field was used on someone who will never share a field with him.

What’s the worst thing that can happen to Cousins?

He loses his job and is released $100 million richer? Then gets another big contract somewhere else?

He doesn’t give a frick.
