I dont think you let Mack walk unless you have someone to at peast fill his spot. Might not be Mack level, but cant be doing that bad.

Little devils advocate.
For a team that’s still rebuilding like Chicago, is using 2 firsts on a guy you’ll have to pay an outrageous amount for the smartest decision?

Trubisky is on a rookie deal but not the same kind of rookie deal that Russell Wilson and Dak had/have. Those guys were on midround deals worth under a mil per year. Trubisky has around $24 million for his next three years and he didn't exactly look like a franchise guy last season, he didn't even look like a solid game manager either.

I think they're much closer than the Raiders.
On defense they now have Mack, Floyd, Smith, Jackson, Hicks, and some other good D-lineman. Those are good players at every level.
On offense they have a good RB, a concrete QB starter, and they just added a bunch of WRs and Burton on offense.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them compete for the North this year.

I know the Browns were interested and am a little surprised they didn't make that move with the cap room they have. They loaded up on the offense this offseason, and Mack would be perfect on the other side of Garrett to help their defensive rebuild
Their roster has improved a ton but they still aren't quite good enough to make a move like this. This is a "win right now" move. The Browns would have made this move in 2019.

Mack isn't too old and is a proven super-elite guy. DPOY-caliber talent. their chances of drafting a similar guy with both picks is cloe to 0%
also if they have the cap room, they can front-load the mack deal. this link says they still have $23M in cap room. you can front-load the contract, use that cap room up now, and it lessens the blow down teh road

also the Browns have Garrett and Ogbah
plus they passed on Chubb in the draft. they seem happy with their edge guy

You rarely see teams front load contracts in the NFL, so I doubt they do that. He'll get the money he's due this year under his current contract, but his extension for starting next season is when he'll really cash in. The Bears just don't need to go full stupid like the Rams did.

Damn good move for the Bears. They had a good defense last year. This gets them a top 5 defense potentially

Mack is a game changer.
He will "keep" until the bears trubisky is better.
1 year.

You have to understand that Nagy’s offense is expected to be very innovative compared to last year’s OC. Plus Mitch has more weapons and that experience under his belt. I also know they didn’t reveal anything in preseason. Sum it all up, the Bears could possibly have their championship “window” just now opening up. But sure it may take another season or two to reach the peak. Exciting day if you’re a Bears fan like me

Being a Raider fan is hard, people...
*ETA -- Two first round picks is nice, and the rumor is Kyle Long will be traded to Oakland in the deal. The thing is, there is no guarantee either of those picks will contribute like Mack did. A bird in hand and all.

Their D was already solid, now it is top 5. The Bears have to think that Trubisky has progressed enough to handle the O. I don't hate the move for the Bears if it truly is just two first rd picks.
ETA honestly it just stinks they are in the NFC which is absolutely loaded

The Bears now have Akiem Hicks, Leonard Floyd, Danny Trevathan, Roquan Smith and now Khalil Mack. Green Bay and Minnesota ain’t running on that with their shitty OLs.
Their corners are above average and they have at least one good safety in Adrian Amos. In fact, he graded out as a top 5 safety last year. That D is stacked.
They have two good RBs in Howard/Cohen. A potentially good WR corps with Robinson, Gabriel and Anthony Miller, along with Trey Burton. They’re a Jared Goff like ascension from Trubisky from giving the NFC North a third playoff team.

the rebuilding is essentially done. the last piece was an edge rusher opposite Floyd that they never addressed.
When you consider that next years first pick would almost HAVE to be DE, and the assumption that we'll be drafting out of the top 15, it's not as steep as it looks.

If they'd just grown a brain and picked Watson, this team would be absolutely stacked.

Two firsts from Chicago should be pretty damn valuable since they'll suck.

They are already going to have 3.

The Bears can afford this just like the Rams because their QB is under his rookie deal for another 4 years.
Raiders on the other hand couldn’t afford to have a contract like Carr is getting plus what Mack’s will be.
Rams can give Donald that deal when they are paying Goff peanuts for two more years.
