KG Jr is the reason I am a switch hitter.
Always tried to mimic his stance and swing.
Dude is the GOAT

I agree, but Bonds played left field

Yeah but the guy I quoted said Griffey would’ve been the undisputed GOAT if he stayed healthy which is simply not true imo

Because I think he was the overall better player. Why else?

That’s fine I guess. The data doesn’t back it up though. Through their age 28 seasons:

Trout- .305/.419/.581 172 wRC+ 73.4 WAR
Griffey- .302/.381/.562 144 wRC+ 57 WAR

Griffey was the better fielder, but that’s about it. Trout is clearly the better offensive player (hitter and baserunner). The one area Trout was significantly better is the most important thing a hitter can do—not make outs. Despite 11 more PAs through age 28, Trout made 188 less outs than Griffey.

The numbers are more pronounced when you account for Trout playing in a pitchers park, Griffey playing in a hitters park. Griffey also played in a slightly better league wide offensive area. League wide OPS from 89-97: 732; league wide OPS 11-19: 728

This fricking genius.......sorry sparky, Trout is a great player but Griffey Jr. was the best all-around CF in the modern era. I’ve watched Griffey and Trout throughout their entire career and Griffey was the better player point blank. If he didn’t get hurt as much as he did later in his career, he’d probably be the GOAT.

When does the modern ERA begin in this conjecture? I won't try to change your mind but I will say the Willie Mays was a special player in every aspect of the game.

The numbers disagree with your subjective evaluation.

As an owner, I'd rather have Trout.
As a fan, I'd rather watch Junior.

Were you old enough to watch Griffey debut in 89? I’m just curious.

I was two, so no. I do remember watching him as a kid though. He was great. Trout is better.

Fair enough; we’ll just have to disagree then. I’m just not a “his stats are better, he’s better” kinda guy. I just use the cliche “eye test” and seeing both from the beginning it’s KGJ.

so what your really saying is you grew up watching Griffey and you’ve ever really watched a lot of trout but Griffey is the guy you remember watching in the 90s being the best center fielder and so in your mind that guy still is. Because the eye test would also indicate that it’s trout

I mean trout is 6’3 220 pounds he hits for power he hits for average he has plate discipline and he’s really fricking fast. I know some people think war is stupid, but even by conventional stat lines trout is the better ball player. I mean you can still say Griffey is better but that doesn’t make it true. I can scream from the rooftops that I’m the king of Germany but that doesn’t make me the Kaiser either. Trout is better and it’s much less of a debate than Jordan over LeBron or Brady, Brees and manning.

I guess you have trouble with reading comprehension.......I said I’ve watched both of their careers from the beginning
