I bet he is glad that they kept the military around

But please allow me to foot the bill for publicly-funded sports stadiums and arenas, yes daddy.
I’m confused on this thread. It seems like you are trying to make fun/tongue in cheek that the same people who want politics out of sports are advocating for public funding for stadiums?
I highly doubt that those two groups overlap in significant numbers.

I doubt it. His original point remains true. He would probably prefer a system like Switzerland or israel.

There has been a pretty nationwide push against that and has been one of the catalysts resulting in teams moving.

Mandatory military service? I am cool with that as well.

Nothing says "land of the free" like forcing people to join the military

It's what James Madison wanted...
*Freedom isn't free, it costs folks like you and me*

On a voluntary basis, no doubt.
Wars have never been about freedom.

They've always been about resources.

Not at all. Just makes you a bit hypocritical if you support the grandiose displays for the military in the sports arena while saying they should "keep politics out". The military is political.

Having service members hold a giant flag over the field while singing the national anthem is grandiose? Flyovers, yeah you have a point for those being grandiose but who in the heck doesn't love a flyover?

Art Modell: NFL owners are 32 Republicans who vote like socialists.

The military isn't political or should be political. The out-of-scope use and display of the military in civilian theater is political.
The DoD has spent millions of dollars to the major sports leagues to "advertise" though the displays and promotions broadcasted on television, including flyovers, national anthem performances, and large flag unfurlings. Both Democrat and Republican administrations have overseen this idea of spending taxpayer money with the intent of receiving dedicated benefits through advertisements disguised as performance.
Military is military. It serves a proper purpose in our society. It's best to not blur the lines with capitalism.

A better example would be, keep politics out of sports but make a huge show out of honoring the military and becoming a propaganda commercial for the armed forces.
Politics have been part of sports for a long, long time
Remarkably stupid post.
I'm sure you think honoring NYPD/FDNY around 9/11 is political as well? They are government entities, and are therefore political, after all.

So they shouldn't recruit for an all-volunteer force by using other forms of advertisement, such as commercials, billboards, etc.? Interesting. What about using contractors or purchasing munitions and funding R&D?

I'd argue well-run companies don't need to spend money to advertise their business. Especially ones lacking free-market competition.
But feel free to go ahead and continue War Hawking.
