5 hit the portal already & Mickelson is out of eligibility. I assume they're asking for more $$ and KU isn't giving it to them. Also some unfounded rumblings of Self retiring.

quote:

Add Rylan Griffen’s name to a growing list of Kansas basketball players who’ve entered the transfer portal, as the program's offseason continues.

A KU official confirmed Monday that Griffen, a junior guard this past season, is in the portal. That makes five Jayhawks who very well might not return to the program for the 2025-26 season, after a 2024-25 campaign that saw it finish 21-13 and lose in the round of 64 of the NCAA tournament against Arkansas.

The other KU players who are pursuing options elsewhere are senior guard David Coit, freshman guard Rakease Passmore, freshman forward Flory Bidunga, and redshirt junior forward Zach Clemence.

Welcome to 2025, this’ll happen to a lot of teams. Heck it’s happened to Illinois the past few years already

Bad players that didn't play it seems like. More likely processed.

Many players may not be unhappy with their current team. The portal is almost akin to players choosing to enter the free agent market. Some, probably several, will return to their current schools. However, they want to be able to "formally" field offers from other schools before making that decision.

AJ Storr said it was his childhood dream to play for Kansas, but I would wager:

1) He'd be gone in a heartbeat if he got $1 more to play somewhere else next year

2) There are some conversations being had about the pay cut he needs to take if he plans to play for KU next season

Bidunga is the only one I’d hate to lose. We’ll see if he withdraws from the portal.

Storr, Griffin, and Passmore didn’t do shite this year. Clemence has been on the bench for over 2 years. Anyone who wants to pay them more, have at it.

Self did not look well this year, I wonder if he's dealing with some health issues?

no it's absolutely fricking r worded to think this way or try to make that point about everyone paying players.

kansas is recruiting high schoolers and transfers at the same level they always were, if not better. they just got dickinson, storr, griffen, zeke mayo, etc... probably had the best portal performance 2 years in a row. were ranked #1 in the preseason for a reason. unfortunately, the problems have manifested after getting the talent on campus.

the problem has been roster construction and operating rosters completely differently to how self develops players and teams. there is possibly a talent evaluation/loyalty issue as well, but getting the talent to lawrence is not the issue, it's just the wrong talent.

The transfer class was ranked #3

They got who they wanted, it just worked out like shite

If this happens another season after the roster is inevitably overhauled it’s likely the witching hour for Self

The NIL era has propelled missouri to early tournament losses to Princeton and Drake sandwiching an 8-24 season.

Griffen and Colt played a lot. Not sure about the others.

I wouldn’t necessarily say bad players but they certainly weren’t really lighting it up at Kansas.
