re: Just in case you were wondering, Christian Hackenberg really sucks at QB

So how bad is this Jets offense gonna be this year?
One of the worst in NFL history. No QB.
A pretty good RB in Bilal Powell. No WRs whatsoever.
It is going to be exceedingly awful.

Jets-like. Probably early 90s Jets-like.

Dude is probably seriously pondering playing another year after this one at USC already.
I think he already said something to the effect of "don't tank for me."

As he was leaving the field, the Temple defense sacked him again.

Hackenberg not getting a fair chance to win starting job
It was supposed to be The Summer of Hack, a critical time to fully evaluate Mike Maccagnan’s second-round pick from a year ago, before the organization determines whether they’ll go all-in for Sam Darnold, Josh Allen or Josh Rosen in the 2018 draft.
Bowles insists that “we don’t have a starter,” yet McCown has received the starter treatment to this point. Maccagnan maintains that “they’re all going to have their opportunities,” but every objective observer can see that Hackenberg has not yet received a fair chance to prove what he can do with the first team before the first preseason game against the Titans this weekend.
Jets are always a mess...and I'm not just referring to Draft Day.

Bad enough that they will have to admit they are tanking. Otherwise the people clamoring for Kaep will be 100% correct that there are far worse QBs starting in the NFL.

Oddly enough, he never improved.
Cam Cameron sure gets around.

Slightly embarrassed to admit that after I watched his freshman year I thought he was going to be the next great QB.
A good friend of mine is a Penn State lifelong fan/alum. So, I wind up watching a good deal of Penn State football when he comes over on Saturdays in the Fall.
I remember Hackenberg's freshman year and my friend just being "giddy" over having Hackenberg for at least the next two years. He really thought this guy would win at least one - possibly three - Heismans.
I just didn't see it. I thought he pretty much sucked from Day 1. He had zero pocket presence and just made too many stupid mistakes.
I gave him a lot of grief over the next few years -- much more grief than I ever gave him about Sandusky and JoePa.
In the end, he agreed that the kid just didn't have it and questioned the Jets when they drafted him in the second round -- although he did say that he hoped his game would translate better at the Pro level. I just gave him the following look --

O'Brien left and he was a really bad fit for Franklin's offense. Not sure why he has sucked so bad in the NFL. Gotta be a mental thing.

Everyone says this now but Hack had a little of the Matt Barkley hype as a freshman...he was going to be the next big thing. Nobody thought he would be so sporadic and up and down...and hit and miss. He's had some great games and then games like he doesn't know how to play football. Strange career.

Is he still drilling people on the sidelines with errant passes?

This was a common byline his freshman year - so you can't say, I knew he sucked.
Freshman phenom quarterback Christian Hackenberg was at the center of the Nittany Lions' success.
Hackenberg passed for 339 yards and four touchdowns against a Wisconsin defense that had allowed more than 200 yards passing in just three games this year.
He had offers from Bama and Stanford and anyone else. Threw for almost 500 yards in Ireland. I remember watching him in the Croke Classic and he was money in Ireland. So good, so young and then plateau.

The Jets are the argument that CK is good enough to start in the NFL. Granted, this is a reflection of their organizational incompetence, but the argument exists because of them.
