we only pressed if we were trailing late, and it was usually just fullcourt man with 1/2 traps. nothing fancy. our coach at that level was more into us just playing straight up man and defending the hell out of our guy.

I coach 5-6 grade now and talent overall isn't bad. At these levels it takes just 1 or 2 good ball handlers to break any press and usually ends with a layup.

I used to make my guys condition with a suicide before practice then pick a guy to shoot a FT before make it we start star drill miss we run another.

Then random times in practice I'd pick a guy to shoot FT miss suicide make we did something fun or i would run

My 2 favorites were the 1-2-2 match up and 1-2-1-1 3/4

I ran a drill to teach my 1-2-2 where I put 1:00 on clock and if the team got ball into paint I added 10 seconds. If a team got shot in paint they got 30 sec added if made shot in paint the offense would pick next drill if defense team won they got to water break

The press being used constantly in jr high or lower level basketball is usually a sign of a coach more interested in winning games than teaching the game. There should be more teaching going on at that level.

I disagree, that's often the case but teaching them a pressing aggressive attitude can be beneficial if done right. Especially if they are planning on going to a high school that presses. It also forced them to learn to make quick decisions

Yes, use it. But, you have to settle down on offense to score.

Same problem Nolan had.

Didn't watch the game last night but Arkansas runs a straight man press and from time to time a 2 2 1 but 95% of the time it's just full court man

tsa decent 13 year old point guard should be able to break a full court press by himself just keep your head up you're with your left hand and don't run into the corner is not all that complicated what really gets you on the press is not the traps is passing or trying to get the ball out of your hands as quickly as possible a good steady ball handler that is comfortable with his ball handling is not going to have a problem with a full court press

Is it a 2-2-1 or scramble?

Because the 2-2-1 is designed to slow the pace

Yeah you really don't trap out of a 221 but it does confuse people who think that you're in my prayers and they try to pass the ball of court Allah 221 Paris is going to really do it just put pressure literally on the point guard to make decisions for Speed the game up

Now h diamond press on the other hand is literally designed to steal the ball the second it is put into play or on the first pass but at the same time if you have a good quick point guard that can handle the rock it's the easiest to score against

As a point guard I used to love playing against teams to press I practice I practice against that everyday and I can handle the ball what used to kill me was a particular team we had to play twice a year there and half court traps 100% of the time even missed meshots

I watch this team beat a conference rival something like 92 - 13 anyone a bad team I did I just didn't have anybody that can handle the ball good enough to get past half court trap

I bet the OP likes participation trophies as well.

You missed my point entirely.

Not surprising.

I didn't say that the press wasn't fair. I said that it seemed to throw the offense all out of rhythm and the team turned the ball over again and again.
