I think it would have been best for the Rangers to finish 3rd last year, as much as it would have hurt, I think the Rangers front office got too complacent just because we finished ahead of the Angels when all we heard last year and last offseason was how thee Angels were going to run away with the AL Pennant

Would have had a bigger sense of urgency had they finished 3rd

It would not surprise me though, if we hear all the rest of the offseason, all of spring training, and all during the season until the Angels are mathematically eliminated that they are the team to beat, and they don't make the playoffs. Just like last year.

I agree with the fizzle. They'll start out hot... but when the grind sets in - They won't be able to keep it up.

The problem is not Daniels or Ryan, it's with the co ownership not wanting to spend the money. As much as Nolan publicly stated how much faith he had in Grenke, and how his throwing motion is such that injuries were not a problem in his opinion, ownership failed to pull the trigger and throw out the money to obtain him. This in my opinion is the biggest mistake this team has made thus far. He should of been signed by this team before the winter meetings ended. To go from possible offseason heroes, to Zeros, fall soley on the ownership, and their reluctance to act and spend money to go over their projected salary. If Nolan, Daniels and Wash had their way, Grenke and Josh both would be on this team, with the possibility of trading for Upon as well. The ONLY way we salvage this dismal offseason (thus far) is to trade for Dickey. Sanchez is a desperation move, which I have no confidence in.

So we lose Young, Napoli, Hamilton and Uehara, and we gain a pitcher that's been thru two Tommy John surgeries, a catcher that has a career average of .215, and a couple of questionable relievers...... This team went from the favorites to dominate the offseason, to absolutely sucking hind tit! With the huge tv deal coming up for the Rangers, the ownership should have been eager to improve this team and go over budget, but instead, the Rangers go from favorites to the 3rd, or possibly even 4th best team in the West. After an abysmal ending to this past season, our team has Drastically been worsened, and 2013 is looking bleak. Dickey AND Upton is our only hope to contend in '13, otherwise we can hang it up now. SPEND THE MONEY OWNERS!!! Damn

Don't really see how he helps their problems. Angels still have shite pitching. And a lot of his power will be sapped in that park.

Flushing money down the drain.

Well Ricahards, Blanton, Hanson can probably do better than what Haren, SantanA, J. Williams gave them for most of last season....

Alright, here it goes. I'm 21 years old and I was born and raised in Arlington. My dad works section 32/33 at the ballpark. I'm not bragging that I've been to more games than anyone or watched more games than anyone I'm just saying I'm not from New York. as far as 2013 goes, MY had zero place on this team. In fact, him being on the roster would hurt the team. Do you mean to tell me you want a DH in the american league that hits less than 10 home runs? You're fricking insane. not to mention he's a defensive liability. Michael Young is one of my fricking hero's, but it was time to let him go. Mike Napoli's career average hovers somewhere between .220 and .260. I'm too lazy to look up the numbers. But if you want to pay someone 13 million dollars a year to maybe play 135 games and get that kind of production, that in and of itself is why you don't work in baseball. Josh hamilton is a liabilty. He's a fricking selfish crack head money whore. I personally watched him quit the last 4 weeks of the season. And to think we were willing to pay him 25 million dollars a year makes me sick. Yes, we should have acquired ZG. But believe me, Jon daniels is working on something. We have no reason to think otherwise.

Weaver is a Cy young. Wilson was sp1 for 2 WS teams. Hanson is a 3 with a career 3.60 era and 8.4 k/9. Richards is a nice young arm and Blanton is the epitome of a 4/5. Plus they'll trade for another pitcher.

You don't need 5 studs in a playoff series. shite Bumgardner couldn't even get a WS start.

In closing, Josh Hamilton HRs (43) traveled an average distance of 415 feet last season. Average MLB distance is 394. He also led the league in No Doubt HRs (which means the ball cleared the fence by at least 20 vertical feet AND landed at least 50 feet past the fence). I think his power will translate anywhere

I don't care. I'm just saying judging a player based on his batting average is retarded.

Especially someone who is going to be playing catcher.

then base it on his GP, and he's not going to be primarily a catcher.

What do you think his salary should be?

Every year FAs get paid more and more, undeservadly. You either get in the arms race or get screw with Geo Soto as your catcher.

fricking Youklis is getting $12 mill

greinke isn't even an ace and is getting $20+ mil a year

You pay to play and the rangers have shite the bed thus far

I'll give you that, he's only going to be playing around 30-40 games back there.

In all seriousness, I'd base his pay off of a carefully prepared aging chart using WAR and players who had similar careers/body styles. Oh, and I definitely wouldn't use FanGraph's WAR, it's waaay to effected by defense.
