Nah.

Stats only appealed so much to voters for so long.

Happened to Westbrook too

There was MVP fatigue with Jordan too. In 1997 Karl Malone won it. People were upset.

It’s all about the rings. Dirk Nowitzki with his ring is one of the all time great basketball players. Without his ring he’s be remembered like Tracy McGrady or Steve nash - which is to say not really at all on the conversation of all time greats.

If Jokic wins a ring this year and beats Durant and Lebron or steph along the way, Jokic enters the chat with Dirk and Hakeem for guys who won rings without an elite co-star. It will change everything about his legacy and how he is perceived.

It’s true and you know it. Do you think Embid wouldn’t win MVP after averaging a near triple double and being a first seed without harden?

Westbrook didn’t lead a team to first in the west without a superstar.

Lmao

Jordan never won mvp 3 years in a row.

I’m not saying Jokic didn’t deserve mvp, but guys 0 people would question were better than him in their prime never won 3 in a row.

Jordan
Magic
Kobe
Magic
Kareem

Never won 3 times in a row.

Y’all are leaving a very important piece of the story out.

You’re leaving out that jokic has been mvp twice and hasn’t sniffed the finals. They had the mvp the past two years and got embarrassed in the playoffs both times. Right or wrong voters will take that into account.

And he’s making it to the western conference finals, so the voters were wrong. Thanks for proving my point.

Doesn't work that way. Otherwise, LeBron James would have to devote a wing of his house just to MVP trophies.

And it's not a white man problem dude. It's just a popularity contest. Just like all other big-time MVP/Heisman winners.

If this were actually true, MJ would have won 10.

So instead they gave it to a guy with worse numbers, on a team with a worse record despite better supporting cast, that has had even less playoff success as an individual and a team than jokic? Yea, makes perfect sense.

It's MVP fatigue. Not even Jordan or Lebron ever won 3 MVPs in a row.

That probably had more to do with lebron joining a Miami super team vs “mvp fatigue”

What does it matter? If you're judging whether or not someone's worthy of the award by any other metric than on-court performance then the award's validity has been compromised.

If a black center averaged what Jokic is doing, they’d be discussing him being the GOAT center ever, but Jokic is white, so he doesn’t get the credit. NBA is like a mountain; mostly black but white at the top.

Some of yall really do love to play the victim. It's ridiculous.

Embid had a good season but it wasn’t mvp caliber. if not Jokic, it should have gone to giannis. Emid got it because the media bitches about him not getting it every year.

Joel averaged 33 a game. He didn't average as many assist, but the extra points Joel scores basically balances out with Jokic extra passes.
The 76ers actually won 1 more game than the Nuggets this year.

Neither team has had playoff success. The Nuggets were bounced out of the first round in 5 games last year. The year before they were swept.

In what word is averaging 33/10/4 on a 50+ win team not MVP caliber?

A world where Jokic averages a triple double and makes it to first in the west with no superstar. Hell, Giannis had a better season and he’s a proven champion.
