Possibly the easiest job in the country with the talent and conference. granted now recruiting grounds isnt what it used to be with Nil and stuff but CAL was regulary going 35-2 ish every year and i dont see why that would have ever stopped. He probably would have had the majority of his kentucky recruits at memphis. his overall record would be insane. he probably could have won a couple titles even though he blew the one in the chalmers game.

They would be the mid-South’s Gonzaga and find it exceedingly hard to win a natty without being tested in their conference

I'm pretty certain he had several things vacated due to recruiting violations so who knows what would stick win wise or even how long he'd have lasted.

Yep, there was a similar controversy with Wall at Kentucky.

yeah but he would have skated by. the not being challenged thing would be a problem but they were 2 min from a title with rose and douglas-roberts and werent challenged. i gotta think he wins anything from 0-3 national titles. lol. i think wall and cousins and company would have gone to memphis. but his W/L record would be absolutely crazy and people would think he was a better coach than he is

Probably has 2 more titles and possibly just an absolute shoe in for the sweet 16 - elite 8 every year.

Dude, Tulane only lost by one 27 point shot in the regular season and one 20 point shot in the conference tournament. Clearly Memphis was tested.

If he hadn’t have gone to a blue blood I bet he would have gotten a show cause for recruiting violations.

He really blew his legacy when he pissed away the National Championship and the NCAA would have eventually hammered him there. It was time to go

He likely never gets a National Title, goes to fewer Final Fours, wins fewer games, and probably retires a few years ago.

He was getting one and dones at Memphis, but he was not getting near the volume of them until he had the allure of a lot of players in the league AND the Kentucky machine and brand behind him.

The SEC was not very good the year Cal won an NC at Kentucky. Cal and Kentucky went unbeaten and won the league by six games. Three non-Kentucky SEC teams made the tournament, the highest seed amongst them being 7. It is a tough sell to say that they were “tested” that year.

Bet they were still seeing more athletes than CUSA at that time would have had

And the Final Four at UMass was vacated. Not sure how involved he was with the Camby-booster situation.
