Agreed. I have no loyalty or ties to JP. But I won't convict him until things are more clear. And obviously if things come out that show tht at JP was more involved and whatnot, he and his legacy can go frick themselves. But I'll refrain from judgment until then.
JP could've been held in the dark about it, or he could've been at the helm of it. We don't know at this point.
I definitely don't have a problem with him leaving though. And it's definitely better for PSU if he does.

There is no excuse/explanation that would satisfy me.
He is the main guy there... he doesn't have a boss basically. He is responsible for everything in that program.

This happened ten years ago. I hope he had a few mental faculties left ten years ago considering he has been allowed to "coach" for the last decade.

Joe Pa was and is the most powerful person at PSU, it doesn't matter what they told him.

We know he knew about it. Its a fact. He's not being held legally responsible because he told his "superiors". They are in trouble cause they didn't do anything about it and lied about there knowledge.

The whole situation has become an abject lesson in why you don't let an 85 year old man remain at the helm of an organization as big as a big time college football program.

That's the thing. It wasn't just coaches. It was coaches, administrators, etc etc.
There were a shite load of people who knew about this and sat on it. This has to have been some psychological effect going on (bystander effect?). If not, it would make for a hell of a case study.

I said it in the anchored thread, but this smells like Paterno trying to cut off the BOT and save himself until the end of the season by leaking this. I don't see anyway the BOT can allow him to coach another game.

this is how it breaks down for me...
they OBVIOUSLY knew something was going on (multiple times) because they took away his keys and supposedly made him stay away from kids...that, for me, is complete admission of guilt by the staff

Saban time?
Actually I heard Urban Meyer's name again. We're going to need a really solid recruiter but it does sound like it's going to be a clean slate for whoever come in next.

If I was a PSU fan at the game Saturday and saw Paterno in the press box or Mcginger on the sideline I would walk out of the stadium immediately. This staff should have been fired yesterday.

People at the top constantly lose their jobs for the bad behavior of subordinates in the business world. Even if Joe knew nothing which is almost impossible to believe, the man at the top should lose his job.
Makes me sick that Penn State will let him finish the season. It is clear they are forcing him out so why wait? Cowardice.

Of course they are going to let him retire on his own term. Probably give him emeritus status, and an office on campu....

Agree. But I did hear this morning something about ginger growing up close to Sandusky, almost like close family friends and knowing him since he was a kid maybe? (uh oh) So in that context, his reaction to the situation might would be different than the rest of us. And I'm not surprised now that he called his dad. Not defending at all, just giving the full context of new info I heard this morning.
he didn't even stop anything, he just grabbed his ginger sneakers and ran away to call daddy. Even if it was his own dad in the shower, he didnt have the nerve to even say stop?

EXACTLY. The school AND the charity knew about this guy before.
I read on the ESPN ticker last night that the charity (that Sandusky worked for) knew about this as early as 1998.
W...T...F...??

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing
I quoted this in a thread yesterday and this story is a perfect illustration as to why that adage is so true. We can grandstand and protect legacies and ego's all we want, but many "good men" stood by and did nothing to help the helpless when they were the ONLY ones who could. There is no excuse or explanation--legal or otherwise. I"m tired of the excuses.

Didn't a reporter for the espn station in state college say that Sandusky was at a psu practice with a small child in 2007 and was working out on campus as late as last week. These fricks turned a blind eye to this for a decade.

If he's going to walk away, he could at least have walked away to call the cops.
