Why would any team want jj's contract?
money is no object to the nets' owner

Ferry would be GM of the year if he gets this done!
I would certainly forget about his underwhelming first draft attempt

If the Nets can keep Brooks as a 6th man
kinda hoping the Hawks can get Brooks as the principal piece in their side of the deal (along with cap room/ expirings).

I was hoping that, too. It's nice to get rid of Joe, but if we lose Josh at the end of this season I'd hope we'd have something to show for it other than cap space

lol @ the dumbasses commenting on the AJC complaining about this being a salary dump and getting nothing back. If you can get out from under that contract, just do it and be happy.

Only took them two years to feel buyer's remorse. Did anyone think it was a good idea to give him that contract at the time?

The comments section on the AJC is the best thing about that paper.
I would love to experience the mind of an individual who thinks that continuing to pay Joe Johnson a max salary is a good idea.

it was widely considered that we basically had to do it to stay in any form of contention. if we are able to get rid of it, thatd be cool as shite but i had no problem keeping joe the past 2 years.

they were in a tough spot
the knicks were going to offer him a similar deal, and they felt they had to keep him b/c they're above rebuilding

Being a GM on mmost teams is basically an impossible job.

The problem is they can't get a superstar to come in FA so it was a way to try and get a face for the franchise. Plus it isn't like he sucks, he's just getting old and declining. He's probably still a top five 2.

actually, only 1. his numbers dipped in yr 1 of the deal, but they were actually decent this past season.

there wasn't much sentiment against it, except for it being at least a yr too long.

Bunch of shitty pieces

I guess Morrow did go to GT

The most recent proposal, sources said, would call for the Nets to send the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams to the Hawks in exchange for Johnson.
Sources say that the Nets, though, would prefer to complete a deal with the Hawks by including at least one of their free agents via sign-and-trade -- most likely Gerald Green -- and by hanging onto to one or two of the aforementioned expiring contracts.
If the Nets can convince the Hawks to take on Green or perhaps Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade, it would allow them to stay over the salary cap and keep their mid-level exception to sign an additional free agent. Sources say that the Nets have serious interest in Bosnian free-agent forward Mirza Teletovic to add additional frontcourt depth.

So you're saying there's a chance we get rid of Joe and Dwight?

Another big stumbling block, sources said, is Atlanta's insistence that Brooklyn include promising Nets guard MarShon Brooks in the trade.
good thinking, Ferry. though don't play too much hardball, gotta get Joe off the books.
