Joe Burrow holding the ball too long is becoming a real issue

Early in his career and much of last season, the issue was as much the OL as it was him. However, statistically he is getting more time in the pocket this year with a revamped OL but actually taking more sacks. And through two weeks he has the longest time to release of any starter in the league.
He’s a fantastic talent but he’s trying too hard for the big play.

Show those stats
Cause he oline seemed to give up pressure within 3 seconds forcing him to move most of the day today

Could be trying too hard but could also be play/route design. Never discount the Zac Taylor factor.

The lsu fans will show up and freak out but it’s 100% Burrow’s one major flaw.

It's also part of what makes him great, he's willing to stand in/extend plays when others wouldn't and it results in huge plays downfield often. Rodgers had issues with it (not to the extent Burrow has) earlier in his career when he was taking ~50 sacks a year. He needs to find a better balance and I'm sure it will improve as he gets older.

He will be known as one of the biggest #1 busts of all time when it’s all said and done

You should take a long look in the mirror and consider becoming a better poster

where are you getting those stats?
nextgen is showing 2.58 seconds, which is 8th worst.
Justin Fields leads the league at 3.21 seconds so far. league average is 2.75

That’s an interesting stat since it doesn’t count sacks where the ball isn’t released.
It’s also an interesting stat because you made it up.
Among QBs with 2 starts this year, only Davis Mills, Brady, and Carr have less time to throw than Burrow.

He’s also played the two best defensive players in the NFL in his first two games this season so that might skew the stats. It also means this is all a bit reactionary. Every qb struggles with Micah Parsons and TJ Watt trying to kill them all game.

Parsons had one of the best games I’ve ever seen today. He impacted most passing plays, even if he didn’t get there every time. On the few occasions the line didn’t fold, Burrow was still clearly skiddish and forcing the ball too early.

All those busts that led a team to a Super Bowl

How can he hold the ball less than average and be in the bottom half of how long he holds the ball?

Not sure why this thread gave us the standard awful Texas and Arkansas posters, but here we are.

There aren’t many guys like him that when they’re healthy and fresh are going to wreak havoc on every single NFL offense. Last week he had to get comfortable with his offense with TJ Watt going nuts.
There are great edge rushers in the NFL but those guys are cut from a different cloth. I haven’t seen the Browns play in a while but Myles Garrett used to be in that class as well.

It’s also important to use it in the right context - Davis Mills, Brady, and Carr all have 10%+ higher intended air yards per pass than Burrow, but are getting the ball out only fractionally faster (2.58 seconds for Burrow vs 2.52 for Brady, 6.9 avg intended air yard for Burrow vs 9.7 for Brady).
Basically the entire narrative of the OP is wrong - Burrow is throwing the ball faster than he did last year and much closer to the line of scrimmage, so he’s not holding it too long looking for a big play.
