#NFL released memo today with all draft eligible underclassmen. Only 34 names appeared on the list. For reference, over 140 juniors declared in 2019. NIL keeping players in school!

NIL has changed college football, not destroyed it.

NIL obviously wont affect round 1 or 2 players, but I imagine it's preventing a lot of kids who are obviously a late round selection from jumping ship sooner than they probably should.

However, what is the deadline for underclassman to declare?

Minimal “students” with NIL are there for education purposes.

Maason Smith is obviously not getting any NIL money then.

The women’s game is what changed the most. These ladies don’t ever want to leave school and I don’t blame them. Most top earners will never see this type of money ever again in their professional careers

That's not referring to "they want their education". They're just staying where they know they have guaranteed money

Will the NFL start to press for NIL regulation in college football if it starts to affect them?

Yeah, I don't mind NIL. But, the portal is completely out of control.

I don’t think NIL has killed college football as much as the transfer portal.

Pay for play has always been a thing, so I don’t mind that they decided to stop pretending..

But full blown free agency, transferring to arch rivals, and schools turning over their roster every year is killing everything that made CFB fun and unique

Charlie is speaking from the perspective as someone who is trying to capitalize commercially on NIL. NIL as inducement, tampering, and free transfer is harming the sport. It has wrought opt outs which are going to end bowls.

The proposed NCAA plan for schools to directly pay players could kill small programs and non-football sports.

No one can be even remotely sure that these changes are not going to harm the sport. I think free transfer has hurt the play on the field. The rules committee is focused on lowering game times by reducing live action time. Recruiting classes have been reduced to a formality as about half don't stay with their program. It's good for radio guys to talk about, but it has reduced my interest. I'm curious if other people are less interested. I liked college football because of its differences from the NFL. Each passing day, they seem more similar to me.

And yet the worst defense in all of power 5 football has two of ony 34 juniors nationwide declaring for the NFL.

NIL isn't the problem by itself...NIL plus the transfer portal is the problem. The two can't coexist without CFB turning into the NFL every offseason. They need to go back to the old transfer rules.

As an NFL coach/GM/Owner, kids staying extra years in college is probably a good thing.

If you are a premiere talent, you are declaring because you are going to make more money in the NFL.

If you are a fringe player or worse, you are staying which means you should get better.

More players staying those extra years, means less players coming in unprepared and busting.
