I agree with your point, but I think the setting has a lot to do with how people took that comment. They threw themselves a championship style celebration for signing with Miami, if he says it on Sportscenter it wouldn't be replayed over and over like it is.

Kobe had his time where he was bashed to no end like LeBron. Then LeBron took over as the best player in the world and now he's held to the higher standard. Comes with the territory.

I don't think anyone took it literally. All great players who don't win titles are criticized.

Fair enough.

Well, the Heat threw it, not the Big 3, but yea.

It also coulda been viewed as a cool thing to do, letting thousands of folks pack the arena for free, since many are never gonna be able to afford to go to an actual game. But of course, no one took it that way, that was just comlpetely ignored.

this.I also think a lot of people still don't like that these three planned to team up to go after a title together.Nobody could have ever imagined Magic,Jordan ,and Barkley doing this.

I was there. It was kind of sickening to see as a non-Heat fan but now I feel like I was a part of history

There was also much more buzz in the arena that night despite it only being half full than any game I've been to since the big 3 arrived.

They also never had the opportunity to. It is SO easy for Jordan to look back and say I would never have teamed up with ____.

hindsight is always 20-20

It's so easy to say when you have other top 5-10 players on your team who are also HOF greats.

Also, didn't Magic do something like refuse to come out to the draft if the Bucks or somebody drafted him cause he didn't wanna play there? not sure if I'm making that up or not lol.

My point was just that it never happened before, you won with the team you had or you didn't like Stockton and Malone.

But times have changed, and I will never understand how we always complain that athletes don't care about winning and just want the money, then we turn and bash guys for making a decision that can not be argued was purely about winning.

It's hypocrisy IMO.

Exactly

Jordan threatened to leave Chicago if they didn't get him help. When he was winning all his scoring titles but no rings. They got him help. Do you think Cleveland could have actually gotten help for lebron?

I think the contention is that if Lebron is an all-time talent, that he should be able to elevate others around him and win,not team up with other established stars.I think if the Heatwin a title,it will be viewed differently than if say the Thunder win it.

Well, that is the contention, but I think it is ridiculous.

Jordan, Magic, Bird, you name the HOF top 5-10 all time great, not ONE of them ever won a title without another all time great alongside of them.

So, to be honest, the same thing Lebron is getting criticized for like you said, not being able to elevate others around him and win, those guys never did that either with lesser players. Obviously, they never really had to, they almost always had other HOFers around them.

It's nonsense, IMO.

It will be viewed differently, no doubt. But if we're being unbiased, how is that remotely fair to Lebron?

Durant gets viewed different SOLELY because they drafted Harden and Westbrook? Something he had nothing to do with.
