Now that they have the BCS, they will do everything in their power to shape the polls and insure the matchup that will get the best ratings, regardless of who the best teams are.
ESPN will be pimping the SEC like no one's business now that they have the SEC contract as well. Great news for SEC fans, horrible news for ACC, Big East, etc.

I don't get this argument. The computers obviously are not affected at all. The coaches/SID's/whoever votes for the coaches don't give a crap about ESPN. A few Harris voters MIGHT but not many. I just think this is a poor argument.

why does this guy still have a job? if he's not bitching about the white man keeping him down or racism in the nfl, he's bitching about something as irrelevant as ball state. what a moron.

Here’s what I hate about Whitlock and why I think he’s such a hack: he has a good central argument here and I think it is something that needs to be told. It is disgusting that ESPN has so much control over, well, every sport. They make or break teams and players simply by exposure and hype. I do think there is a huge problem with the almost complete absence of a wall between ESPN’s news-gathering arm and its entertainment wall. Because of this, its news show suffers because it is just a shill for ESPN programming. These are real, ethical problems with the way ESPN conducts business.
I even agree that Ball State is criminally neglected. I’ve seen them play in three of those four games, and didn’t come away all that impressed (and man, is LeFevour’s throwing motion awkward or what?). but it is a great stort to have a little guy going on this great run. It should get some more play. And Davis and especially Hoke, should be better known, even if I don’t buy the Heisman argument for a second.
So, with all of that, Whitlock completely oversates his case, makes it all about himself, constantly refers to BSU as “we” (marking him as a fan, not a journalist), and generally alienating any person who might be convinced by his argument. He is so over the top, he is unable to actually convince anyone with a cogent argument. I found myself thinking Whitlock is a total moron and like I said, I AGREE with him. What a complete hack.

I pretty much agree. It's a good point that's lost in the obvious homer-ism of his article.

Believe it or not, before ESPN purchased the majority of relevant sports programming and seduced most of the creative, independent-thinking, connected sports writers to join its evil empire, there was this magical time when substance and the little guy actually had a voice in the sports world.
Apparently I'm not the only one that thinks ESPN is a monopoly

Whitlock didnt just stop here either. He filled in for Rome today (one of my buddies told me this, I dont listen to Rome anymore) and basically ripped ESPN and Fowler during the radio show.
Whitlock was easy to feel sorry for when he went down for disagreeing with that clown Lupica and co on the Sports Reporters, but makes it hard to really support when he puts so much personal bias into his writing.
His columns are always interesting, but usually forgotten after reading.

So Whitlock writes what many people think (ESPN effects the Heismann and BCS votes), but most responses are ripping him. Heck, the guy "allegedly" got fired for having a different view point than ESPN wanted to portray.
Charles Woodson over Peyton Manning. Thanks ESPN.

I don't know what you all are talking about, but I thought that article was awesome. I don't care if he's a Ball St. homer. I really don't. We all have teams we like and at least it took ESPN taking a shite on his personal favorite to get this issue into the mainstream.
Sure some of the Ball St. arguments get a little tired (i can tolerate it), but the larger issue that he brings up in the article is what I enjoyed. It's something that should be seriously discussed.
