No. The job requirement to be a journalist is being able to write well. Players know and understand the game better than journalists. Players also will know about stuff going on in the locker room behind closed doors that the media never will that could have an effect on who they think is doing the best job and deserves MVP.

I don't see what's funny about that either. People can disagree, but I don't think it's silly for someone to have the opinion that the Rockets have the best roster. They're right up there with any team in the league.

Media members have their biases like anyone. Look at media members from the Bay Area, Cleveland, and Houston and see who each one voted for.

From a guy who thinks Memphis is better than Vancouver and the Grizz are a top tier team in the West.

No shite local guys vote for their own guys, but that doesn't have any sway whatsoever. Over 120+ people vote for the award

You won't find a single non-biased fan that believes this. The Rockets do have a really good roster, though.

You had the first reply to this thread which was simply a . I'm not sure why that was your response because the result of a player vote award seems pretty relevant for the MSB. I imagine you would have posted this same thread if a Grizzly was ever good enough to win such an award.

Sure, but they also have to be able to understand the game to communicate it in the first place; Cormac McCarthy wouldn't be able to write well about the NBA just because he is an amazing writer.

Besides, being a successful journalist requires a certain level of cognitive ability that is useful in the analysis of anything. This is not as necessary to be a successful basketball player--although it helps.

Players know and understand the game better than journalists.
They understand the nuances of the game (e.g., tendencies, plays, etc.). That is different than analyzing the game for the purpose of these awards (e.g., normative comparisons, marco-level analysis).

Players also will know about stuff going on in the locker room behind closed doors that the media never will that could have an effect on who they think is doing the best job and deserves MVP.
And that could also very likely create an unnecessary bias based on something unrelated to the purpose of the award.

And they all have their personal biases. I was showing that the local guys' biases are related to their hometown team.

But other media members have their own biases, also. Not the same biases as the local guys, but they vote on their biases.

Media guys also get tired of voting for the same player year after year. They look for reasons to give it to someone else. That isn't objective. That is bias. And you know that happens.

And players don't? What other explanation could there be for a guy like Draymond being left off? Or Steph who never really see hanging out with a bunch of these guys like Harden does?

I thought this was common knowledge. I guess some just don't have a firm grasp of the league.

Players who are on the court know that Green cheats his way to being a good defender. The refs may reward Green for illegal screens and drawing fouls on screens, but the players can see through that.
