You have OCS ahead of West Monroe and Neville??? Seriously? Who puts this shite together? Have they even watched any of the teams they are ranking? What a bunch of garbage.

So the whole catholic league is in the top 30 in the state and 5 of the top 15. This will be extremely interesting to see how it plays out.

It's Max Preps, not someone sitting down and saying X could beat Y. Rankings are computer-generated, factoring in past results and adjustments such as returners and statistical data when available. No one is saying the Rebels or Tigers wouldn't beat OCS. At the same time they consistency and level to which Fitzhugh has built that program earns them a lot of respect, as it should. They routinely beat higher class teams, and gave OPHS all they could handle last year in their only loss. I don't see a problem with either them or Many being in the top 20 given their sustained success, even if several 4A/5A schools below them would be favored on the field.

Looks like they are using cal preps power rankings which are extremely good at predicting head to head matches but usually doesn't get accurate till after 3 or 4 games have been played. By the end of the year they are pretty spot on.

I think you're right that Maxpreps uses the same formula as Calpreps, I ust think outside of California more people would recognize the Maxpreps name.

I don't even think Calpreps does projections until after week 4. Just a ranking based off a scale.

The note from Calpreps rankings:
"IMPORTANT NOTE: For info on how exactly the ratings are determined, please see our ratings page. If after reading that, you still want to vent in an email to us, feel free- but please understand that we simply can not possibly respond to every "our school should be rated higher than so-and-so" type email.

-As you'd imagine, playoff results (and in particular, championship results) are weighted much more heavily in determining a team's ratings than are regular-season results.
-On ratings pages, the season list of scores is shown beneath each team. "Good wins" (wins against a higher-rated opponent) are shown in blue; "bad losses" (losses to a lower-rated opponent) are shown in red. Games against non-U.S. opponents are a factor in the ratings as long as the out-of-country team has played at least one other game against U.S. teams. Failing that, there is no data to use as a basis for comparison.
-A team with a "0" rating is the average team- positive rated teams are above average, while negative ones are below average.
-Ratings listed here are rounded to the nearest tenth of a point, but teams are placed in order according to their exact rating.
-"Schedule Strength" is simply an average of the ratings of the teams that school has played.
-In order to maintain the integrity of our ratings, post-game (administrative/ineligible player) forfeits are recognized in win-loss records only. They do not affect the ratings of the teams involved. The only other type of forfeit we recognize are those involving league games after the league season has started (for standings fairness/balance). WE DO NOT award forfeits for cancelled games. Please do not contact us to try to convince us to give your team a win in these situations. Thank you for your understanding."
