He’s maxed that program out for 2 decades

This is one of the worst takes I've seen on here.

They literally bought their own national "title" when Pickens was still alive.

That was made obvious months ago when he hired this man to be his defensive coordinator:

Never been a childs game. Started in College. Still, it is just entertainment. So you would need to make the same argument about actors.

Anyway, im just rambling now.

Gundy was on the coach’s room broadcast of the 2019 NC game.

LSU was lined up with the ball at midfield when Gundy pointed to Terrace Marshall and said a couple of times “6 is uncovered.” No other coach commented.

Now there was a defender standing across from 6, so I’m not sure what Gundy saw, perhaps he meant it was a mismatch, but 6 ran to the end zone and caught a TD pass on that play.

I’ve been willing to give Gundy the benefit of the doubt ever since.

Gundy is done. Whether he retires or is forced out, he’s out this season unless he somehow wins 10 games.

Oklahoma State doesn’t have Texas Tech money but they also aren’t Cincinnati level. They have some resources.

There’s no reason they shouldn’t be competitive in the Big12 yearly especially now with 12 CFP spots. Gundy seems to be a stubborn old head or he’s not getting the support from behind the scenes like others are.

Gundy is an enigma. To me it all started when a player commented about him wearing an OAN tshirt in summer of love rioting. Instead of saying it meant nothing and he was out fishing Gundy apologized. At that moment he lost control.

It almost has seemed like he’s not putting in effort to prove something or make them fire him. He was even not using or pushing NIL through last Dec.

And the pickle they have he’s the best coach they’ve ever had. He’s alumni. If they fire him that pisses off fanbase which they need to half fill their stadium. Fire and it might go to 1/4 full or worse. They need that extra money. And firing an alumni HC would send the wrong message. Yet Gundy won’t take a voluntary reduced buyout and leave.

Fully motivated he can coach. He damn near got them to the title game but Iowa State ended that with a FG.

I have no idea what they will do. Will be hard to get a good coach to move there. Hard to recruit there. They would hsve to find another young alumni coach who won’t leave after success. Have to be careful what you ask for, it can get a lot worse. And thats the pickle they are in.

Majority of the fan base would understand that it’s time to move on. Now this is assuming he has another really bad season. If he simply goes 6-6 this season he may be retained.

I like Gundy but it does seem he has reached his ceiling at Okie Lite.

At least with the new playoff system they will have a chance to get in by winning the big 12, but as others have said, they miss T Boone

OKST doesn’t have the resources of UGA, Oregon, Bama, LSU, etc, but OKST does have the resources to always be in the mix for the Big12 championship and the 12-team playoffs.

Last year’s team should have won the Big12. It had a returning QB, the Doak Walker winner, the starting OL, and several starting WRs returning.

Instead, the QB regressed dramatically, and the defense collapsed completely after two starters were injured.

Gundy cleaned house. Last week started with three straight scores, and the extremely mobile QB broke his foot.

I think Gundy can get OKST back to 9-10 win level. I don’t know what will happen when he retires or is forced out, and steam is building for either to happen.

People just thought a handful of teams had a chance in the unlimited scholarship era. Wait till you see what happens in the unlimited NIL era.

The deepest pockets will always win.

Based on what? They’re realistically the, what, 6th or 7th best program in the conference based on resources, location etc?

Utah
UCF
TCU
Texas Tech
Colorado
Probably ASU, BYU
Then Ok State, Houston if they want to invest Baylor, Iowa St, Kansas St all in a similar tier

That was Chubba Hubbard. OK State reduced Gundy's salary by six or seven figures and shortened the length of his contract ( I believe).

I’ll donate $20 to Oklahoma State’s NIL fund to watch someone shave Gundy’s nasty mullet off.
