I thought it was something particular to my Twitter feed (lots of sports nerds) that everyone is suddenly really into F1, but it looks like everyone is suddenly really into F1.

Thanks, Max Verstappen (or Michael Masi*)?

Should be thanks to Netflix. I’m part of the bandwagon…

I will admit. The Netflix series got me hooked 3 seasons ago.

It's from Netflix. My brother in law wouldn't shut up about it at Christmas.

“Enough,” said Stugotz. “Every Sunday morning, including J.J. Watt, by the way, everyone is an F1 fan. And everyone’s tweeting about it. And it’s nonstop. And I’m getting these alerts and I don’t care about F1. And no one else really cares that much about F1. It’s become the cool thing to tweet about on social media on Sunday mornings.

“Do me a favor, stop tweeting about it.

The Gotz is right

But the guy walking directly past Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union to get to Paolo Banchero, who he thought was Patrick Mahomes was a classic moment in TV history.

It’s not the racing. It’s the perceived European glamour.

NASCAR has closer racing and more American names but that’s not what these people are looking for

They are two very different forms of racing. One is very driver-centric and one is much more about the car. Being predominately oval racing NASCAR has closer racing than road track racing. On a road track NASCAR sees the field being more spread out a lot of which has to do with fewer full-course cautions that are ubiquitous and to a degree are necessary in oval racing.

That being said F1 has far more allure for the IG generation than does NASCAR.

NASCAR has dull looking identical cars driven by personality deficient drivers around indistinguishable tracks all while it insults and alienates its core audience. As such, it literally offers no appeals, nothing for the audience to latch onto, no drama, and no stories worth investing in. NASCAR is dead.

F1 has done noticeably less of that, so a lot of people who like racing, or like the Netflix series, have gone to F1.

Martin Brundle, a former journeyman F1 racer and won Lemans in I think 1990.

The interaction with Megan Thee Stallion and her security last year was arguably funnier. "You can't do that" "I can do that because I did".

Yah I would make the case that Nascar going woke was the dumbest PR decision that I've ever seen in my life.

A big part has been the racing. I've only been a very casual F1 fan for a long time but happened to start watching again early last season and it was the best season I've ever seen in any sport, and my memory goes back 50 years.

This year does not have the same feel yet even though Max is behind in points and Leclerc will never have the star power of Hamilton even though he is in a Ferrari.

I mentioned something along these lines in the F1 thread during the race. So much of the build up and coverage of the race prior to the actual race was about the celebrities who would attend, not the actual racing. As someone who is into the racing and has been watching F1 long before it became more than a blip on the radar in the U.S., it was a bit of a turn off to see so much of the coverage of the race dedicated to the celebrities in attendance.

I started watching it having to wake up early on Sunday mornings with my kids. Then found the Netflix series and love it now.

Yup, driving in a circle is so much sexier and difficult…

It’s about the intricacies of F1. It’s college compared to kindergarten.

Now with what I said, last years Indy 500 won by Castroneves was maybe the most compelling race I’ve ever watched…

Google Trends data can be misleading. It doesn't give you the actual numbers, just a representation of how popular it is versus itself over time.
