873 wins between those 3.

We'll never see that again. They are the greatest starting trio of all-time.

The best thing about that era, the steroid era, was that we got to watch 3 incredible pitchers, (Maddux, Pedro, & Randy Johnson), all at their peak, absolutely destroying those juiced up hitters

the braves strike zone was stupid wide

seemed more like a glavine thing. just watched some maddux highlights and all the called strikes looked good and the swing and miss stuff was dominant.

The 96 team was loaded and had an all time staff at their best and even won the 1st two games of the WS AT NY and then just fell abate.

Was at game 4 of that series… Braves went up 6-0 and then fell apart. When Layritz hit that 3 run HR to tie the game in the 8th the stadium felt dead quiet for the rest of the game, “frick yeah!” To “Oh frick” in one swing. All down hill in the series after that..

I mean he took up for his son getting his dreams crushed getting to meet one of his heroes

Greg was damn smug about it to. Like nobody would’ve known had he done it . It wasn’t a line of other kids waiting .

I used to go to Astros spring training in Kissimmee. If you sat in the first couple of rows behind home plate you were probably closer to the batter than the pitcher. Saw Maddox pitch. Honestly it wasn’t that impressive compared to other guys I saw with regards to movement or speed, which in turn made me more impressed with what he accomplished because he could put the ball exactly where he wanted and make the batter look ridiculous.

Saw Nolan in 87, nasty. Oswalt in his prime had a filthy slider. Scariest was Randy Johnson, unreal to see the ball come out of his hand so close to home plate.

Seeing Clayton Kershaw’s curveball from about 15 feet behind the bullpen catcher in his last minor league start before being called up to LA was something I’ll never forget. The catcher was literally laughing out loud at his breaking ball.

If y’all haven’t seen the documentary Facing Nolan, go check it out. Fantastic docu on Nolan Ryan. It’s in theaters now, I think.

Eta: he was so good, that during one of his no-hitters, the last batter of the game walked up to the plate with the leg of a table as his bat because he knew he wasn’t getting a hit on Nolan that night

This was called a strike for Maddux.

Just a bit outside.

The entire league complained the Braves had their own strike zone.

still don’t know how the Braves didn’t win more World Series in the 90s

What was even more vexing was that many
of their better teams ('93,'97 and '98)
didn't even make it to the WS... especially the '98 team.

In that NLCS against the Padres, the Braves scored a total of 3 runs in their 4 loses, one of which was an extra inning game
