Obviously UGA’s war chest is going to dwarf Techs, but to say nobody in the metro area cares enough about GT football to open a checkbook is beyond hyperbole.

Outside of Tech's campus, how often do you see anyone wearing Tech stuff? How often do you see Tech stuff displayed?

GT hasn't been a sports entity since the '90s (might change if Key stays), and they admit a very large percentage of out-of-state and international students.

Sure, they will get some NIL, but ATL is a UGA city, not a GT city.

Had NIL come during the age of Bobby Cremins and Bobby Ross, things might be different.

Probably. Not sure they can be competitive in the NIL era unless they land a generational coach again

They rose to prominence in the late 90s when when Beamer had a stranglehold on all the kids in Hampton Roads and Newport Bad News. That team was built out of the 757. In the late 00s Florida and others started getting the best players out of that area and VT began its spiral downward.

Their fans absolutely suck. I grew up in Va and lived in DC after college. They were A&M bad when they were decent.

He's got to be a massive a-hole to deal w/considering Florida Atlantic only gave him 2 years before firing him.

Yes, they had a pretty decent run under Beamer from late 90s to mid 2010s where they had some good to great teams. The drop off has been disappointing as someone who has been watching the sport since the mid 90s.

UVA sucks at football, and Tech’s continued dominance over us is the only thing keeping that fanbase afloat.

I’ll respectfully disagree, and that’s not the UVA grad in me talking

I thought y’all were supposed to smart

The VTech fans before and after the arse beating we gave them in 2007 are still talked about by LSU fans as one of the best groups that have come through

I always tell the story, so apologies, if you have read it before...

But LSU was always my SEC team I cheered for and as a VT fan was so excited to go to Baton Rouge. The tailgate, the bars, etc was so great.

Of course the game was a typical VT clunker with LSU just absolutely killing our defense and making our offense inept (Tyrod Taylor 1st game I believe he ever played). So I sneak outside on the concourse to pour myself a drink to be able to tolerate the arse whipping...and then all of a sudden a state trooper (could have been a local) sees me pouring some bottles into my cup and comes over. He looks at me and says, "boy, the way your team is playing you better keep drinking" ..I laughed and he said dont be an idiot and let me go back to my seat.

Why are you saying they’re dead now? They’ve been dead since 2011, save for a bit of a mini revival in 2016-17.

They had a nice run from 1993-2011. Their football history before Beamer was pretty poor. And even Beamer went 27-46-1 in his first 6 years- and the very fact that he survived to year 7 despite that record tells you everything you need to know about their pre-Beamer program.

We were on probation for those early years due to Dooley...giving Bruce Smiths family firewood

89 finished top 25, winning record in 90...and the key year 92 was 2-8-1 and lead in 6 of those games in the 4th quarter. He had to move away from the wide tackle six and brought in Phil Emassain and away they went.

Never really recovered from getting their asses kicked in Tiger Stadium. And im not saying that as a fan, but they were top 5 that night and have been in decline since.

In the last decade they have one bowl win, over Tulane. When their coach left for Houston and most of the players opted for the portal

Dude was on top of everyone’s list that year he took lsu for a ride and went to Texas. I would imagine he has to be pretty depressed with his current status. Saban ain’t around anymore to rehabilitate bum coaches.

LSU dodged a huge bullet when Herman played games with us. He would have been an awful cultural fit.

Michael Vick was out of that area. Today, Penn State raids the tidewater area like crazy, as well as most other big programs in the Eastern/coastal region.

I don't think they'll ever get that back in the current landscape
