This is exactly what its supposed to be- a college athelete cashing in on their own image and likeness. But unfortunately what it will turn into is a recruiting tool and way to pay players to come to your school legally.

How is it fair that we all could use our face to make money if we wanted....unless we played college sports???

NCAA football is not and has never been fair. LSU has benefitted greatly from it being unfair

Going to laugh my arse off if he’s a bust or winds up missing the season.

Yep. Schools with biggest boosters will win.

It’s just as fair as any professional athlete getting an exclusive endorsement that others don’t get.

My issue is guys who havent even taken a snap getting these deals.

That won't go over well in the locker rooms

That’s an entirely different issue and has nothing to do with what’s fair or not.

No different that star NFL players getting endorsements that backups or whatever don’t get.

There is a major cultural difference between amateur/professional sports

It has been a really long time since college football and basketball have been “amateur sports” despite what they claim.

Why? Why would be upset or wish anything bad to happen to him.

Weather you like this new reality or not is irrelevant.

Is he supposed to turn down money just because some fans might not like it?

Would you turn it down if you were in his position?

I have no issue with any kid taking advantage of this and getting paid. Especially when they are one play away from their career being over before even being eligible to play/get paid by the NFL.

Only children cry about things being fair.

Good for the kid.

Just like COVID protocols and the distractions they create throughout the season, teams are now going to have to manage the focus of the players a lot harder. Not all head coaches did well with our virus crisis and I'm sure a lot of these business deals are going to cost teams focus on the task at hand. Winning games.

Wonder who made this decision for Dr. Pepper. Are they not a Texas based company? Will there be blow back from UT and A&M fans, along with all of the other colleges in Texas.

We are in the day of cancel culture for anyone who doesn't agree with our beliefs. Football is like politics when it comes to everyone being on board with their team no matter the situation.

If people quit watching the NFL because of kneeling, why would stopping drinking a soft drink be surprising?

Does South Carolina serve Dr. Pepper at ballgames? Will they drop it this season? I think USCe fans need to start a boycott.

ETA: Will he be in Clemson gear during the commercial, or a Dr. Pepper shirt? From reading this board, I thought Dabo was anti-NIL.

Dr. Pepper is stupid for picking an unproven player to be their college face, but corporate America isn’t exactly know for their bright decisions lately.

I would say, it's about as "fair" as it gets. It's unequal but wholly justified.

I think this poster is speaking specifically about how is it fair that the official sponsor of the CFP is giving on school's player a platform over others. It's a conflict if interest. Now, if Pepsi wanted to do an NIL deal with this player it's not a conflict because they are not an official corporate sponsor of the CFP.

That’s a good point.

Personally I do think there needs to be a rule against that because the optics of it are terrible. Just an all-around stupid decision but the people who knighted for this don’t care about logic, just feelings.

Dr. Pepper takes the risk (not worth it IMO) of alienating fans of every other team in the country. It's a conflict of interest they maybe should have thought of.
