I'm going to assume you have no idea how good of a prospect he was

Nope. I'm aware that both the brothers were drafted #2 overall.

virtually every study done, at least that I've found, shows that lineup protection is a myth, fwiw.

Hitting in better lineups help you hit better that's not really debatable.

Here's a site that tracks HRs. It looks like its affiliated with ESPN.

The 2011 home run leaders: HR(avg distance)

Bautista - 43(406 ft)
Granderson - 41(389 ft)
Kemp - 39(412 ft)
Texeira - 39(387 ft)
Fielder 38(409 ft)

Upton - 31(424 ft)

link? Its basic logic hitting in a better lineup is a great benefit to the hitter. lol you think Derek Jeter would have 3000 hits if he played for the Pirates?

The average player hits better with men on base
The average player hits better in long innings
More PAs
You get in to the bullpen quicker.
Teams bring in their worst relievers in blowouts.

I think that this it's crazy that baseball has become a sport in which someone starts out on fire, and fans start thinking that he's juicing! That's sad!

The big thing is that he clearly gave zero fricks last season.

Also, playing with bj helps tremendously. I assume the improvement is similar to when the Webber twins play on the same team in Backyard Baseball.

Look up giancarlo Stanton's stats for this year.

I've seen studies that debunked the existence of clutch, but never lineup protection, and I eat drink and sleep baseball. Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Look at Giancarlo's April 2012 stats. Same shite.

It seems more likely he is just a slow starter like Tex.

The speculation is all warranted IMO.

Upton has the most smooth swing since Griffey JR.

He was bad in April last year, but not nearly as bad as this year. He is nonexistent.

He probably has the prettiest and shortest swing of any right handed power hitter in the game right now. Darn near perfect swing.

PEDs don't help with swing mechanics.

Upton - 31(424 ft)

his avg this year is 423 so far.

PEDs definitely caused that drop

side note- that site still lists Arizona as his team at the top

eta: JUpton doesn't frick around with hitting short home runs
