So I was talking to my dad about the upcoming dodger year and I was telling how how I thought Chris Taylor was going to have a regression year. As I was explaining my reasoning, I realized that people may still not fully understand the sabermetric numbers that are now prevalent in baseball

So I wondered if it would be a good idea to have a series of threads actually discussing what these numbers are, and providing context so people can have a greater understanding of baseball in the year 2018

These threads can be for the people who are interested in learning more about these numbers but don't know where to start, they can be for people who may not buy into these numbers, but should at least have an understanding that they exist and what they are saying

So, would this be a good idea or nah?

1. All of that math will make MSB posters heads explode.
2. If you use negative examples of players they like people will call you a retard and it'll turn into an "eye test" v nerds debate.

So go for it.

Vladimir Guerrero was worth many WARs, his brother Wilton not so much

There’s not a chance you and Chris aren’t fricking, which bums me out Bc I can see you up with some 40 year olds in’s houston. They all have vaginas though, not sure if that’s a dealbreaker

And to the OP, good luck with an informative numbers thread on this board, I would love it but if you succeed you will have gone where no man has gone before

If you do it, be prepared for certain posters to tard up the threads, a la Hawk Harrelson being interviewed by Brian Kenny.

Yes. I feel like there’s so much info out there now that the people who want to learn probably have, and it would get derailed quickly. JMO

I'm a sabermetric fan but I also use the eye test. In my opinion when you combine both you get a non biased opinion of players

I’d be interested. I only have knowledge of NBA advanced stats and PFF (which I’m pretty sure is like 90% of NFL fans extent). I’d love to see MLB explained.
